mlanglais, I went from 2:73's in my '04 A4 coupe to a brand new Z06 3:42 rear end and couldn't be happier. The cost of the rear end was $1049 shipped from Corvette Garage. The Z06 rear ends have a stronger gear set than the standard 3:42's. I had Andy at A&A Corvette install and reprogram it for $450. I asked Andy about installing a TC, but he wasn't big on them for normal street use. I like to drive the various canyons and the higher stall TC would be a disadvantage. If you drag race often then I would get one. The higher the stall the more heat the transmission produces. If you are going to frequent the drags then I would also install a HD output shaft and a tranny cooler. Do this all at the same time to reduce time and labor costs. With the 3:42's the rpm's at 70mph is ~2100. Very tolerable for long cruises. I have a full Z06 exhaust system and a Blackwing intake and the car feels like it is a full second faster. Again, 3:73's, TC, HD output shaft, and cooler if you like to drag race your car. Go with 3:42's alone if you want a more balanced street car, enjoy canyon carving, take long highway cruises, and want to save money.

If you are like me - stock engine - mostly just rod around town - those 3.73's will turn heads and put a grin on you and anybody who rides along. Makes the car real quick and fun. You must have "rubber burn" foot control or alot of cash for tires. But I never spin unless I want to.

I have had 3.15's, 3.42's, and now 3.73's. I would not go higher, but I would not go back either.
KINGT, are you using a stock TC to control rubber burn?

never mind I see you have a PT2400.

Chevy2much, There is no core charge for Z06 3:42 rear ends.
The cost of labor with reprogramming ranges from ~$400-500
