You all provided great info on the column lock problem, so I'm hoping you can shed light on this, too. The "configure options" menu keeps popping up and scrolling through the IPC display, over and over. Sometimes it slows down, pauses, and goes away, but then the menu comes back, usually within a short time (seconds or minutes). While the menu is scrolling, none of the buttons, including "config options," respond if you push them. Luckily, the problem hasn't affected the car's operation -- but I'm ready to smash the IPC display! Any suggestions as to where find the problem? I'd like to have some background before going in for service. My local dealer isn't very creative in locating these electrical problems.
I would disconnect the negative post on the battery for 30 minutes then reconnect it to see if that resets the DIC before dragging it in to the dealer. The only setting you should lose is the clock.

And maybe yer radio stations too. Be prepared to go through the unlock procedure if you currently have a lock code in your radio, so's you can unlock it when you hook power back up.
Hopefully Patches' idea will solve this glitch, otherwise it's sounding like an IPC instrument cluster replacement.
Good luck
I agree with the stuck button. By the way the computer resets a few things, the heads up display is the one I notice first. I like just MPH, I forgot all the crap that thing can show!
I don't think it's a stuck button. That was my first thought, too, and I tried adjusting the button to see if it would let up, but that had no effect on the menu scrolling at all. Also, there are times when the options menu will go away, and when that happens I can push the buttons and all works fine -- for a few minutes. The options menu will just pop up erratically; also the scrolling speed varies -- sometimes fast and sometimes slow. I thought it might be electrical -- like a loose connection or something?
I will try the battery solution, though, and let you know if it helps. Thanks for the advice!
If I disconnect the battery, will I also lose my CD player's connection to the stereo? It's the 12-disc changer and is programmed as "aux" I think, and usually when the battery is disconnected, the dealer has to reprogram so the stereo recognizes it. Can I do that myself?
True guys but he is saying his changer is someone configured to the AUX port. Not sure about anyone else but my factory changer is not going through the AUX port.

Was there ever answer to this post? I currently have the same problem. I have pulled the cluster and checked the harness between the IPC and the cluster. Not the problem. IU have actually taken the IPC apart. Not the problem. Is the a company out there that repairs clusters and not just reprogram the mileage on a used one? Is there a fix I can perform?

Reason: I meant that I took apart the DIC
Well, I found that it had to be the cluster. I removed the Cluster and checked it out. Could not see any obvious problems. No stuck buttons on the DIC. Removed the harness between the DIC and the cluster. No problems. So I connected the cluster back up to the car. Started the car. And the options menu immediately started running. Sometimes fast, sometimes not so fast. While it was running, I disconnected the harness connected between the DIC and the cluster. WOW! It continued to run the options menu. The problem has to be in the cluster. I have since ordered another one. I cannot find any source of repair for the cluster. There are a lot of shops out there that will take a used cluster and reprogram to your mileage setting. But NONE who can fully repair the cluster unit.
What you want is a way to disable the DIC display, not fix it.
In essence yes as I have found it is not repairable by places like Specmo, Sothwest Electronics, Mr. Whizzard, so I will not presume to know more than them. My DIC for the most part works perfectly fine but at times will turn on on its own for the non usual things that it should turn on for like a low tire etc, and for the important things we have the analog guages; so I don't want to be distracted and irritated with a scrolling DIC display while driving if I can just turn it off when I don't need to see it and turn it on for other needs as I desire rather than spending money taking chances tryng to find a good used one, then paying the high cost of milage regramming at Specmo. I certainly can live wthout the door ajar, and have it off unless I need to program something or check other things then turn it back off. That should save hundreds especialy as these IC's become less available.
