Just today the serpentine belt that goes around the alternator and four or five other accessories came off. I only knew something was wrong because power steering went out and I figured the pump had a leak or was just low...opened the hood and the serpentine belt just came off almost all the pulleys. The question is could this be just a result of belt stretch or is it something else? The car has 45k on it. This is on a 2000 LS1 corvette and I am going to buy a new belt just in case...I just want to hear that in all likelihood it was simply belt stretch. Thankfully it happened 200 ft from the house.
I think I did my first belt replace about 35,000 miles. There are lines on the belt tentioner that indicate when you should replace it.
Also look to see if your crank pulley is wobbling (while the car is running), I have seen some post where the harminic balancer had come loose ... and even had come off.
well thankfully you didn't over rev the damn thing...probably just some chit that happened...but at 35K its time anyway....while your at it replace the AC belt since it is behind the serpentine belt....the whole deal should take you less than 20 minutes....

While you are at it change your plugs too
I just did my belts and plugs last night, trying out the Gatorback belts this time. I get about 12 months of daily driving out of my belts before the AC Belt starts squeaking.

Id stay away from gatorbacks. i tried them, on my Ls1 and it theres a whine that is generated. sounds like a supercharger whine but it was too noisy for me. go with OEM

Just the opposite for me. Returning my 'Vette to stock, I could finally hear the belt making noise My 16000 mile stock belt was replaced with a Gatorback recently and there is no extra noise. A local Mom and Pop shop had them for $24, a good deal since the local Goodyear place tries to rip you off for $60!
I was playing awhile back and got an overtemp warning. When I stopped to check, the accessory belt was off. When it went back on easily, I realized that the Tensioner and belt needed replacement. Easy job and about $75 in parts.
