I took my 2001 C5 up to the dealer to have new tires and Z06 shocks put on. I purchased new 2003 Z06 shocks from a forum member here a while ago but never got around to putting them on. The dealer called and said there was a problem. They took the right front shock off and said the new one wouldn't fit, that it rubbed. They stripped the threads on the old one getting it off so now I have no right front shock to use.
Question is shouldn't a 2003 Z06 shock fit a 2001 C5? Does anybody have the part numbers? He said they had a 25 year GM mechanic doing the work and that they would stop and let their corvette expert look at it on Monday. Has anybody had a rubbing problem putting the z06 shocks on a C5?
If these don't work, I need to get some new shocks in a hurry because I don't want to pay dealer prices to get my car out of there.
The part #s of these 2003 Z06 shocks are 10419093 & 10414571
They're claiming the base of the shock is bigger in diameter than the stock ones and that it's rubbing the wishbone.

I have done this upgrade on my Coupe, with no problem. Many members here have. Yours is the first I have ever heard not fitting. Is it possible that you purchased the wrong shocks or that the guy at the shop does not know how to bolt on a simple set of shocks? Sorry to hear of your problem hopefully the real mechanic will know what the answer is. Bob
Put '01 Z06 shocks on my 98 with no problem. Heard of a lot of people going with the '04 shocks. Sounds like he's making excuses because they stripped the theads.
Thanks for the replies. I think this one is a no brainer. The dealer's "25 year gm tech" can't install shocks. The forum member who sold me these shocks included pictured install instructions which showed how many Coronas it takes to install these shocks. Maybe I'll bring those in to the dealer.
