Does it make a difference? I plan on removing cats trying to get a deeper tone to the exhaust and want an x-pipe to tame the
'motor boat sound'. Make a difference whether I go with the x-pipe in place of cats or in place of factory h-pipe?

I have read that the closer you get the xpipe to the exhaust manifold the more efficient the balancing.
a recent thread on this subject sent me to a website entitled something like dr.gas.com. do a thread search and you will find it.
they sell an xpipe that you weld in to replace cats at that point.
i'd be interested in what you decide to do and results.

Soooooo...If I just put the x-pipe in front in place of the cats, I'll hit two birds with one stone.
Does it affect anything if I leave the rear factory H-pipe in place?

The rear H is not much more than a welded-in spacer for the over axle pipes, and doesn't do much more than keep the tips of your mufflers straight. No problem leaving the rear H and having a forward X.
My research in this area indicates BSiegPaint is correct. Try and find that website I referred to. It hits upon this issue. Looks like they have exactly what you need. (Also, if you have pupcats I think you will need to gut them).
Curious to know how loud this is and how it performs.
If you cannot find the site let me know. It is in my computers history and i will look it up for you.
