Default A4 performance ques.

I had a couple runs on Sat. at the ECS challenge, and am confused about my trans.
1st run, trans in 3, 12.14 @ 115.64-1.88 60'
2nd run, trans in 3, 12.10@ 114.83-1.69 60'
3rd run, trans in D, 12.02@110.76-1.68 60'
Notice the difference in trap speeds between 3 and D. What gives? When my car runs in 3 it bounces off the rev limiter on its 2-3 shift. When is in D the 2-3 shift is just kinda mushy, but doesnt hit the limiter. Help!?

It is not that unusual for an A4 to shift a few hundred RPM higher in 3rd at WOT than it does in DR. Your car more than likely is hitting the rev limiter because it is shifting at a higher RPM in 3rd than it does in drive. Your ET is lower in 3rd because you are hitting the limiter. Your trap speed might be lower in DR. because your tranny is shifting at a lower RPM, this lower shift point would lower your RPM in 3rd gear at the end of the 1/4 mile this would tranlate into a lower trap speed. To be sure about this you would need more than just 3 passes.

What should I run in then. My best time was ran in D, but my traps are way higher in 3.

Time is what it's all about ..Don't you want the best "Times" ?
To me it doesn't matter what my speeds are as long as the E.T.'s are good

You need to set your rev limiter up a couple hundred rpms so you can run in 3rd, that will produce your fastest ET. I am not sure why you are bumping it in 3rd though, my A4 never hit the rev limiter when I ran in 3rd. My understanding is you will have a more agressive shift if you place your vette in 3rd as opposed to D.

Get a good LS1 Edit tune ( shift points, higher redline, wideband A/F ratio adjustment with timing) a Transgo shift kit for immediate shift quality and a set of Drag Radials ..and then smile after you touch the 11's.. Oh yeah..Now, you'll need a roll bar..

I have a good tune, my current redline is at 6400, and I think my shift points are set at like 6200. Would the transgo really tighten up my 2-3 shift? My 1-2 seems fine. Trans has 23000 miles on it. Probably about 30 track passes on it with DRs stall and gears.

If your redline is 6400 you rev limiter will burp prior to that. I think shifting at 6200 is going to be real close to the rev limiter. I set my rev limiter at 6600, but I shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd about the same as you, around 6200. If I set my computer to shift just 1 to 2 miles per hour faster then this in 3rd I will hit the rev limiter occansionally. And when I do it slows my ET some. I use a hypertech III to set my shift points, rev limiter, and shift firmness.

Those who already have the kit know the answer to that already

It's surely one way to eleiminate the 200-300 rpms lag between shifts. I wouldn't drive an A4 without it. Cheap to buy and only about $150.00 to install by a competant trans tech. I think it will make ALL the difference in the shift quality..but that's just me

most likely bumping the rev limiter in 3rd due to tire spin because of the added power in 3 compared to that of OD

I flash it, I get better times just romping it. I tried loading it up to like 1500 which helped my RT's but seemed to lower my overall time. I have an sy3500 converter 3.73's, TSP 231/237cam, tune and the usuall bolt ons.
