I need to have my sensors taken off my old wheels and put on new motorsport Z06 wheels and new tires. I was told buy Corvettes of Houston that you use a speaker magnet placed next to the valve stem to reset the sensor while reprogramming through the DIC. True?
Are the sensors part of the valve stem such that I should warn my tire installer to stay clear of that area?
The sensors are the backside of the valve stem, the sensors and valve-stems are one piece. Remove the locking nut on the outside of the valvestem and pull it out the back. If you actually put them back in order on the new wheels (if they fit them) you will not have to reprogram, normally. If you do need to reprogram you need a magnet, the instructions are in your owners manual, real easy, takes two minutes.

How are the sensors attached to the wheel?
There are several issues with sensor swap. If the company mounting the the sensors doesnt know anything about them you may wind up with a broken sensor.,.,or a leaking sensor. the old sensors have a nut which screws on to the valve stem.,., the valve stem and sensor are one piece.. you need to replace the "O" ring inthe old sensor, and torque the nut to the proper spec.
You may want to consider buying New sensors and "O" rings. Then you can keep your old tires wheels and sensors intact as back up or a complete sale.. which would bring you sensor money and mounting money.. Also if you let someone remove your old sensors and remount them.. and they break one.. you wont know it until you relearn the sensor.. or put the sensor on the same wheel it came off. and even then you have to drive off the lot before the sensor will activate and when you drive off , you have little recourse to come back and say hey you broke one of my sensors, or ALL my sensors..
The best p[lace to have your tires and wheels mounted is one of those custom wheel places where they sell those bling bling 10,000 dollar wheels..
they have the best equipment and usually are very professional and should know all about tire sensors..

Where can I find the size of the O ring and torque spec?
You can contact John or Chip at CCWheels.com and buy the O rings
Or Nate at corvette garage. both are Forum Vendors
or the place where you bought the Wheels.
Torque on the nut is 12 N-m or ( 106 lbs in. ) or about 9 ft pounds.
If you have a 2001 or later car, your sensors don't use O-rings..the sensor/valvestem has a thick rubber seal at it's base, and is reusable. Nothing to buy or replace in this case...remove the sensors and reinstall into the new wheels.
If your car is 2000 or older, then yes, you need to replace the O-rings.
Yes it is 2000. I have tried some of the high end wheel shops and so far they don't want to mount them for me. The dealer wants $255, Corvettes of Houston now tells me $160 and NTB $60. I will call tomarrow and see if I can get the orings from BJs Chrome where I bought the wheels. Or maybe the dealer?
You don't need a big magnet, the one in your tool box will do. If the horn doesn't beep it's too small.
BTW: When I had new tires put on, they mixed up the rims on the rear. I had to reprogram the sensors.
How to: Turn the key to ON position. Use reset to clear any IPC warnings. Use the OPTIONS button to page through the various options. You will reach a "Blank Page" if you get to Odometer you have gone one step too far! Once you are in the blank page, push and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds. Press the OPTIONS button again until the TIRE TRAINING message appears. Press the RESET button until LEARN L FRONT TIRE message appears. Now you will have to use the magnet and place the magnet on the valve stem of the LF tire -hold it for about 5-10secs till you hear the Horn Chirp - once you hear the horn chirp you will have to move onto the RF and follow the same sequence described above till you hear the horn chirp. Follow the same routine then for the Right Rear and finally to the Left Rear! It is imperative that the sequence of programming be followed - LF-RF-RR-LR. From page 3-138, Vol. 1.
Thanks. I actually have the manuals but forgot I had them. It looks like I will use Discount tires to mount them. I have had several people recommend them. They seem to know what they are doing but do not torque the nut. They only hand tighten because they don't have a torque wrench to fit. Does it take a special socket?

Discount Tire is my choice as well, and no, no TQ wrench necessary.
The manual clearly says tighten to 106 lb in. A 7/16 deep socket fits. But it seems that hand tight may be ok as long as it does not leak air. I may take my socket and ask them to torque it?
