I'm leaning towards the Vortex Rammer because of cost and it seems easier to install than the Vararram (spelling?).
What do you peeps think?????? Vortex good????
i have the vortex and went through a deep puddle last night. bad news for the engine. I'll tell you what i end up with after i get a new engine. before i did that I liked the vortex and was happy with the fit and finish.

Deep puddle in LA, at this time of the year? Sheesh, you guys only get 4 inches of rain the whole year?
Vortex or Cyclone, and put in Z06 screens if you dont have a ZO6. this will open up the engine compartment for more cool air and your engine will run cooler. Hydro lock??? not a chance and what would you be doing out driving in that kind a rain??
Having a cooler engine compartment is more benifical then tubulent air coming in to your throttle body.

What is a Cyclone - link?
How would Z06 screens benefit a Vortex? Doesn't it just get air from under the car? Don't you keep the original driving light bezels in place?
I have the Vortex and drive it in the rain with no problems.
Driving in the rain is not the problem with the Vortex, it's when you run into a deep enough puddle that can cause your engine to hydro lock. Member "Redgar" hydro locked his engine while driving slowly thru a parking lot, it was raining hard and he did not see the puddle in front of his car. Get the Vararam, you will get better performance and less chance of hydro lock.
I have to vararam and like it. I suggest getting the custom size K&N filter for it though. The foam filters are flimsy and cheap. I am probably going to get some Z06 screens because I have found some nice size straw like sticks and leaves in my filter. I have not heard anyones engine locking up with the vararam.

Turbuent air flow( air flow from multiple directions) hinders air speed into the throttle body, may be less performance.
Yes both Vortex and Cyclone get the air from underneath in the radiator compartment.
The ZO6 screens ( removing most of the fog light schouds -driving light bezel- for non-ZO6s - excpet to support the fog light) allows cool air to enter the engine bay. Therefore keeping the engine bay cooler. A cooler engine bay means the engine RUNS cooler, cooler engine better HP and performance. Ideal engine temp is 195-205 degrees.

The vararam gets it air through the vents that hold the fog lights, it comes from outside of the engine compartment, in front of the car. Not from under the radiator area of the engine compartment.
Well, I'm sold on Vararam. But......I went to a C5 owners' link on his install on the Vararam and it did not seem to fit together worth a crap. Something about the driver's or passenger's air box lid not shutting correctly. He said the filter was warped? Also, he was not happy with the way the bezels for the driving lights fit. From alot of people's input, it sounds like a piece of crap - but works. This is why I am leery about dropping $350 + on this CAI. I wish they would make this thing fit as well as my GHL exhaust.
