Default C6 Headlight Retrofit on C5?

With all the arguing going on about HIDs, it seems the best option is a full out retrofit. With the C6s out, has anybody ever thought of, or even better, DONE a retrofit of the C6 headlight assembly on a C5? I haven't studied the front of the C6 too much, so I'm not even sure if the light assemblies are even the same size

I think it'd be easier to retrofit the projectors from a BMW, and then build a shroud around the projectors. This could still fit within the popup lights.

Yah there is no way a C6 headlight housing would fit in a C5 headlight housing. Completely different sizes. As mentioned the only way you would be able to do something similar would be to purchase a pair of projectors and make your own housing or by using one of the non pop-up kits already made and fitting those with your own projectors.
www.HIDtech.com carries all sorts of projectors and accessories. I have been pondering the idea but might be too much work than its worth unless I bought one of the non pop-up conversion kits to start off with, but im not about to spend $1300 on those and there not even HID to begin with.

Cool link. I'd be up for the project, but I couldn't make the polycarbonate lense to cover it all. I could probably make the bracket, but without the lense it doesn't look right. --Anyone know where on the web to look to find out how to form polycarbonate?

I think I just figured out how to form polycarbonate:

http://www.signweb.com/electric/cont/feelhothothot.html
http://www.portplastics.com/architect/page22.html

So prices for each kit breaks out roughly like:

$150 for polycarbonate
$400 for carbon fiber/kevlar
$50 for hardware
$800 for HID projectors (hi/lo)

$1400 total

It's still insanely expensive, but at least it includes HID and would drop tons of weight. Guess I need to get off my butt and execute what I've learned eh?

you can trim some of that 1400 cost by using fiberglass which you can paint to match the car rather than kevlar, etc.....
and you could get the GB HID's for @ 300 something, then make housings for high beams so you will legal
trust me, i have been considering making my own kit for some time
once i figure out to mold/shape the clear outer cover, its GO time

I use my piaa1100 lights instead of my pop ups all the time. I think they look better & cost a hell of a lot less initially.

I hope not.

I just shake my head when I see a Honda with Supra tail lights or Nissan Sylvia headlights.

Those C6 Projector lights look neat, I saw one with the lights on this morning at daybreak and it really looked nice. Wish we could go projector lights and still keep our assemblies, now that would be nice. I'm sure there is a way and that wouldn't alter the looks of the C5.

Thanks for the link! That is an interesting site. I saw on there that a guy did a C5 and pirated the projectors from an 02 Audi A4, so that proves that it can be done. I'd like to see an affordable NPU light that looks nice.

I saw a photoshop job of a C5 with the C6 headlight housings and it looked wicked.....I'd be interested in doing a full replacement using the C6 assembly.
