mobil one filter, mobil one oil,,, good stuff,,, I used to use castrol in everything until I got the vette, now I used mobil one,,,I chage my oil every 3000 miles,, need it or not. Some dont agree, but I have never had a failure with this system. Knock on wood...I feel by keeping clean oil in the car , the motor stay cleaner, less wear. Mobil one filters seem to be pretty good, even whenI used fram, I neverhad a probem. No way would I ever go 5,000 or full cycle according to the dic...I usually change it before the dic reads 60 percent....(flame me if you want )

NO Flame here.
I've known guys that NEVER cange thier oil, (just add as needed), no engine problems.
Me, I change at about 3000-4000 miles.
With all I read about oil, it'll last a LONG time in a car, but I still cahnge often.

I like Mobile One Oil & the AC oil filter.
I change my own, service guy at dealership said the oil will last along time, however, this is a small oil filter & needs to be changed often.

I change my Mobil One and oil filter (AC Delco Ultraguard Gold) once a year or at 5000 miles, whichever comes first. I do my own oil changes so I know it's done correctly.

It's funny how the Camaros and Corvettes sold in the UK all had 10,000 miles as their recommended oil change intervals.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but if I didn't know better I would say that oil companies had some influence in our US spec. oil change recommendations...either that or GM sells 'magic' engines in their overseas models.

Since I have been in the states....I change my oil every 7,000 miles (that seems to be when the 'change oil' light comes on for me) My camaro has 30,000 miles, nitrous oxide, and a regular daily thrashing and has never given me the slightest problem.

My Corvette's I am much more careful with, the 64 get's it's oil changed every 2,000 miles (it seems to color the oil a lot quicker than my modern FI cars)

All cars get AC Delco filters, and Mobil 1 oil.

I use and am the forum vendor for AMSOIL.

Here are two links from my website for you with comparative testing done by an independent lab:
Comparative Oil Testing
AMSOIL vs Mobil 1

I found this comparison link on this website on another thread:
http://www.realrange.com/shared/oilspecs.pdf

I use the AMSOIL SDF oil filter (SDF32 is part for C5/Z06):
AMSOIL SDF Oil Filter

Another independent study rates this filter highly (different part number but same filter):
http://www.oilfilterstudy.com/amsoil-sdf24.htm

If you become an AMSOIL preferred customer for $10, you can buy AMSOIL products for about 20% under retail. To sign up, all it takes is one phone call to 1-800-777-7094. Please give them reference number 1206638.

Or you can use this link:
AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program
Again, please put 1206638 in the customer number block.

Thanks.

Actually the 2001 and later Corvettes start the oil life cycle at 15,000 miles. Temperatures above and below about 210 deg F will subtract form that starting level on the oil life function.

I used to work in service and when leasing became real popular it was common to see a tightwad leaser that never once changed the oil. First time the service dept would see the car would be at about 18 to 20,000 miles with a seized motor. The proof was the original AC/Delco filter from the factory has OEM stamped on the bottom. Some of the real old ones were black, but they all say OEM on the bottom. At about 20,000 miles the filter weighs about 5 lbs with compacted sludge. Here's your $5,000 estimate.... Just some funny trivia.

The answer to the original question is: 5W30 Mobil1 or any major brand synthetic with the same rating (GM4718M). Must use synthetic in a Vette. PF46 Filter or equivelent. When the change oil light comes on or 3000 miles if you want to extra cautious about keeping the insides spotless. The change oil light will probably come on around 5 - 7,000 miles which numerous studies have shown oil to still be perfectly good. It's about double that and beyond where you start to get sludge.

Here are two interesting articles published in Lubes N' Greases and reprinted with permssion by AMSOIL on that very topic.

drive the front tires up on some 2 x 12 boards, angle cut the ends. This gives you clearance to get a floor jack under the frt crossmember. Jack up the front, set the frt tires back down on Rhino ramps. Jack up the rear w/ floor jack under rear crossmember to level the car to get all the oil out. Use a piece of wood with the floor jack to avoid damaging crossmembers. Then change the oil.
