Please i just had my colum lock half an hour ago!the car has been in the dealer a month ago for the steering colum recall!!!nothing has never happen before...i called assistance but obviously the service dealer will be close untill monday,so the will just tow the car....
but please if there is something i can do to solve the problem help me...
i remember looking at the display telling "wait 10 minutes" but i pull my keys out and tried again to soon ....please help...my car is 4 blocks away...
The least invasive cure is to yank on the wheel from side to side (very hard) while cycling the key on and off.
The other option is to locate the small hole on the bottom of the column that does NOT have a screw in it. Put a 1/4" extension into the hole and hit the extension with a hammer. This will generate a vibration and should free up the lock cylinder.

What's interesting is there seems to be a rash of CL's failing directly after having a dealership perform the re-flash in the recall procedure. If I was a conspiracy theorist (I leave that to my boss, he's quite good at it) I'd say something was "up". But I don't see how sabotaging the stock CL does anything for GM.. Maybe it's just a huge coincidence!
Ahhhh yes the dreaded failure of the GM fix...glad you guys keep ignoring the advice given here and continue to go to GM only to come crawling back for help.....now go buy the damn CLB...this is nothing personal..its just like the 50th time this has happened here...wake up people!!! You are wasting your time going to GM

From the advice here and on many earlier posts going CLB, after the recall, is obviously the answer for the MN6 to make sure that we never get stranded. But how much easier is it to steal a Vette with the CLB installed.
And if it is stolen would this give the insurance company grounds to deny the claim. I know that insurance companies may not clue into this but the recall itself has likely triggered at least some awareness with perhaps more to follow if it becomes better known to thieves and insurance companies that most 6 speed C5 Vettes are CLB'd.

Uh stolen is stolen... even if you left the keys in the car and someone took it.

Insurance sminsurance
Knowledgefreak is right. That's why we have insurance. If the car is stolen----it's stolen. The insurance company is responsible to compensate you for your loss.
I just traded my '02 A4 coupe in on a '01 Z06 with only 2900 miles. I had been hearing about this problem and went down to the Chevy house and checked to see if the recall had been done on my car. It had not. When I asked what was involved, they said the steering wheel had to be pulled to see what parts were in my car, to know which parts to order. I said that I thought it was just a reflash of the computer and that I would check back with them. I called Corvettes of Houston and asked about their CLB. I asked if, when installed, would this prevent the problem? They said it would, so I ordered one and installed it. That is when I heard the cl motor noise, unlocking and locking, and remembering that my '02 didn't make that noise. I guess the original owner of the '02 had had the CLB installed in his car. Anyway, mine is fixed and the only thing I am concerned with now is that if I have to take it to the dealer for something I can't fix, they will want to do the recall. we will see what happens.

Glad to hear you got the problem fixed. One thing that has worked for me a couple of times (should you ever find yourself in this position again) is to douse the key with rubbing alcohol. It has something to do with the electrical connection between the chip on the key and the mechanism inside the switch. This worked for me on two occassions.
Nice guys....thanks again to you all....
the thing that "did it" actually were all 3 of them...couse i tried all of the above...left right,up down.changing the key....but i guess the one that did it was up-down and the left-right....
i didn't try the alchol...
Now i am gonna get the CLB...
Mine was definately a voltage issue. I did not drive the car for a little over a week and when I started the car (barely) the service column lock message appeared in the DIC and the column was locked. Laughing at my luck, I was taking it the next day for mods and CLB, I thought this is unreal!! The car ran for a short while as I was pondering my options. Finally I shut the car off and figured what the heck and restarted it, column unlocked like normal and all was fine.
Next morning, same thing and checked voltage which was low 11s. I let it run for 5 minutes and turned it off, voltage was now at 12.4, turned the key, DID NOT START THE CAR YET, let the column lock bolt retract, then started the car and drove without incident 135 miles to Houston. But, maybe I'm lucky....
