Default wideband O2 sensor wiring?

hooking up an FJO CWC0002 & Innovate LM-1 wideband O2 sensor controller

questions on correct wiring hookups:

1. underhood 12v power switched with the ignition to power the controller (running the lighter plug-in through the window sucks)?

2. to a coil for RPM input?

3. to the TPS?

4. how best to run cables through the fire wall into the car (window thing again)?

5. how best to splice into the existing wires or plugs?

thanks

Yep, I am looking for the same answers right now. I need a 12V source that only starts after the engine is started. Some mentioned an oil sensor relay that is open before starting and closed once the engine starts. Also trying to figure out how to neatly get the wiring into the car. Hope someone will post soon.

RPM input to the LM-1 requires a signal-converter-gizmo (sold by Innovate themselves). Just call or email them for the specifics. Somewhere under the dash there is a white wire that has the data... but it needs converted over to something the LM-1 can understand.

I did AFR tuning with my Predator without bothering with RPM input (because the Predator doesn't have the capability for precise AFR adjustment based solely on RPM. The early Predators had a built in curve that covered the entire RPM range at WOT. The newest Predators group the RPM into two adjustable blocks... 2k to 4k; and 4k to 6k).

As for running the O2 sensor wiring; I came across a set of the connector ends and made a 12" extension. All I drilled through the floorboard was a 5/16 hole (just big enough for the actual wires) then attached the connector ends to both sides after the wires were in place.
So when I want to check the AFR, I screw in the O2 sensor into the extra bung, and plug the sensor into one end of the 12" extension. Then inside the car I plug the LM-1 harness into the other end of the 12" extension.

Hey Mike,

Where in the floorboard did you drill the hole and can you be a little more specific on the connector you "ran across". How many wires are in that wrapped bundle coming from the sensor to the box. Is it something I can get from radio shack. Your solution sounds like a good one, I am just trying to picture (hint, hint) exactly what you did. Thanks for the scoop. Hopefully I will get time to try it later today and see what I come up with.

I think I have pics....

one connector end came from a discarded bad O2 sensor. I cut off the wires, nead the sensor and that gave me the 12 inches (if it was only that easy... ).

The other -mating- end came from Innovate themselves; they had a bad batch of LM-1 harnesses and gave me the end off of one. But I have reads that the other end (not the one on the sensor - but it's mate) can be purchased from a VX/Audi dealer. I have the part number somewhere; I'll post it later. I think it is a $3 part and the connector pins are about $2.50.

The hole I drilled was through the floorboard - pass. side. Again; I'll have to see if I took pics or not.
I used a Heyco hole dressing insert, then sealed it with a dab of silicon rubber.

Hey Mike,

Thanks a bunch. Yep, if you have pics, please email them if you have time. Before I go cutting my new LM-1 to pieces, I have one more question. Is the wrapped bundle just color coded wires that can be resoldered. For instance, if I just cut my cable in half, can it be respliced or it is like audio wire where it is wire inside of wire (I am not a big electronics guy as you can tell). Anyway to tell how many wires are in there. I could just get a generic connector or pinout plug that has the many wires and use that, right. I will check the VW place and see if they can order one. Where was that VW stealership at. Thanks again. Can't wait to get home and drill holes in my new car.
