Looking at the service manual, it calls out GM Part # 12377953, which is a special anti-seize for O2 sensor re-installation. Does anyone know of a easily accessed substitute in case the dealer doesn't have this stuff?
OK, resurrecting from the dead. Same question. Dealer anti-seize is $25 so looking for another alternative. The Loctite material I use on the spark plugs doesn't state sensor safe to I am apprehensive about using it. Loctite does make a copper based anti-seize for O2 sensors, but I can't find it.
Anyone find something in a national store like Autozone?
I have used Permatex and NAPA anti-seize on these for years and never had a problem with removing them years later...
Here are a variety of them in different sizes. A great "tool" to have in the garage. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en...ed=0CDsQzAMwAA
"Important: A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite tends to burn away, but the glass beads remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from an exhaust component and if for any reason the sensor is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before the reinstallation."
I haven't seen any "sensor safe" substitutes for it either. You're probably better off using the GM compound.
Loctite and Permatex list a copper anti-seize for O2 sensors. Spoke with Permatex, the compound is the same as the old Fel Pro C5A that we have at work. Plan to use this. NAPA also carries this material under their part number but provide no technical details for its use.
