I have a 97 coupe and after a good drive I park in the garage and the vette smells like gas/fuel anybody ever exspriance this? I dont see anything on the floor or see any leaks anywhere
Doesn't sound normal. I had a gas smell problem in another car, but not the vette, yet.
Once, the problem was fixed with a new gas cap. The new cap looked exactly the same as the old cap, I mean, visually there were no apparent problems with the old cap, but the new one screwed on easier, and got rid of the smell.
Another time, I had a small crack in the gas tank. No puddles or leaks evident on the floor of the garage, but vapor was definitely coming out. The dealership wanted to replace the tank, but I didn't think the car was worth the cost, so I asked them to get it fixed instead. The repaired gas tank was hundreds of dollars less than the new part.
Check your fuel filter, I had put one on and it broke! The Gm ones are plastic and break easily. I went and got a Napa one which is metal. No problems. I am not the only one whos had this problem either. Check it right away. I was pouring gas all over my driveway.
I've been searching threads for anyone that had this problem as well. I didn't see anything so I just posted the same question a few minutes ago. I'm having the same problems with my 98. Seems to happen mainly when the tank is above 1/2.

Ditto on mine. The '97's had a recall problem with thier gas tank seals leaking...and I just figured that was the problem when I smelled gas in mine. It turned out to just be a fuel filter leaking around the seam. I guess you should never overlook the "easy fix". sj
Your car has a vapor recovery system which is a part of your emissions system. All emissions related functions are monitored by the OBDII system. Check to see if you have any DTC codes stored. The codes may lead you to something causing the problem.
