voltage fault
My car has been sitting for some time. When I turn the key, a message says battery 11.8 volts. Is this just the battery needing a charge?
This a new 04 with less than 4000 miles on it. I hope it's nothing serious.

You actually got a fault? Or, when the DIC went through key on the battery voltage showed 13.8 . That level is actually pretty good for a car that had been sitting.

13.8 is the mean (average ) votage regulator setting. + - 0.7
when there is a problem with your charging system a "Charging system fault " is displayed.
there is nothing wrong with a 13.8 voltage reading..
