I went to track yesterday after getting my 422 in. I had 5 disappointing runs. It was very easy to miss a gear, so I had to really slow down my shifts.
In my trans am, i had a ripper and a drill mod, and could WING them into gear, very fast. In my zo6, I have a ripper also, no drill mod (I was told you cant do them on a zo6?), and cannot shift near as fast.
How can I speed up my shifts?
Best run was 2.0 60' 11.8ish @ 124
It supposedly dyno'd 475/466 and that was a not a full throttle run supposedly (?).
How much mph am I leaving on the table? That is slow as hell for what the car is, IMO.
I was told they were just trying to get a good baseline tune, since it was a brand new motor.
I have a ripper shifter now.
The drill mod is when you remove the line going to the slave, and drill out the restriction in the line, allowing much more fluid to move back and forth. It made shifting WAY better.
Hurst here, I speed shift at 5500/6500rpm (depends on mood) without letting up on throttle and it shifts perfectly and haven't missed a shift with Hurst. Waiting for the clutch to go though, then I'll upgrade it also. I thought the Z06 didn't need that mod and that is one reason some guys upgrade to the Z06 stuff?
wango I still have my TA and I have a z06 and I've never heard of the drill mod. I don't understand how opening the line to the slave will help shifting when that only affects the clutch, or is it that the clutch is just that much easier to operate and not as touchy?
I'm actually looking for a short shifter too since the throw on the z06 is longer than the TA and it's driving me nuts
I was at the strip a few months back and a guy with a Zo6 also told me about the "drill" mod and he told me to do it it if and when I go in for a clutch change. I forgot the size drill he told me to use? Do you have any idea on the size to use?
For a quick and easy method to smooth out your shifts jsut change the fluid to the GM synchromesh fluid and you will be amazed at the smoothness it brings with it..
You might want to look into the Royal Purple trans fluid also, I have talked with a lot of guys at the tracks, both drags and auto cross that are using this and they all rave about how much better, smoother & quicker the trans shift
In addition to the other suggestions, perhaps practice?
That should be a given
The only thing I really want to know is if the hurst shifter lowers the stick height. In my opinion, the **** is just too high.

Tried bleeding the clutch hydraulics? What was happening? Missing the gear or grinding it or what?
Seems strange. I have all stock hydraulics with a BPP and I can shift as hard/fast as I want. I previously had the same problem as you but it was due to blown synchros ( I was grinding on fast shifts ).
