Default Header wrap???

I'm installing new long tubes....should they be wrapped near the altenator and starter or anywhere else? or is it even necessary? Thanks! Greg

header wrap is not usually needed,,,,but it is very important to make sure you route the starter wires and 02 wires away ...I did made a starter shield out of heat reflective material, but just draped it between the header and starter. No need to shield the alternator, its not close enough to worry about.

I wrapped the headers on my car and I would do it again. I hear that it's not too good for the headers, but then again I don't know if they mean coated or not?

It's not recommended, both because it can damage the headers, and most LT headers would be tecnically difficult to wrap.

Causes higher temps than the header metal can handle over time. Not recommended if it can be avoided.

Just to add, if your headers are stainless, then they dissipate heat very well anyway. I have also heard of engine fires with header wrap though I cannot verify this.

I put ceramic coating stainless headers in the same category as rust proofing and undercoating a brand new car.

Wrapping the header will cause allot of heat to build up underneath and rust out the header, don't do it!!
Coat it with a Jet-Hot type process using a Sterling Silver coating is the only way to go!

Instead of wrapping the header, wrap the starter. Use a good insulator material such as Fire Sleeve material. This stuff is so good you can insulate a torch from your hand with it. Don't try this at home though.
