I hate to echo problems on Z06 installs but I've spent the most frustrating day yesterday with induction systems that I can recall, bottom line I reverted back to stock which also was a PIA. My TRAP came without instructions and after searching around on CF I found a video which was some help. I have a late model '03 Z06. Here's the scoop.
Not matter which pieces I put where, the warhead filter would not fit with proper clearance to allow the shroud and the lower duct to clear the shroud without bulging the assembly to the point that I could not get the shroud returned to it's original home on the lower fascia. Perhaps my pieces were reversed. Jim, could you describe which plastic piece the rubber insert goes into which houses the MAF? I have two which look almost identical. One has slots cut around the circumference. This originally had the rubber MAF rubber gasket in it - was a PIA to get installed finally did and needless to say had to seperate to return my Z to stock (PIA2).
Is there something special that has to be done with '03 Z06's?
Can anyone point me to good installation documentation?
Any magic that I'm missing??
Or does this simply not fit some Z06's?
I sure would like to use the TRAP on my Z but cant use it if it won't fit!

i bought the same thing it didn't fit either. first they sent two carbon fiber bridges. i told them it didn't fit they said i was out of my mind. so i sent it back. jim called and said they sent two top pieces by mistake. they returned the top carbon fiber piece but the lower one was black plastic. well it didn't fit any better, theres a sensor in the way on 97 to 99 vettes. when i called they said i was out of my mind they put them on with no trouble all the time. same thing they told me before i sent the first part back. then jim called and said oops we will send you wrong pieces. well got to the air filter and 98 vettes took a different one, smaller so i got a pile of parts that don't fit. if i was you i would buy a vara-ram.
Seems I'm not alone, time for an RMA and start over again I guess. Maybe a better question has anyone installed the TRAP on a Z06 successfully (or without incident?).

Aaaaaaagh!!! I just spent the most frustrating day I can remember since getting my Z06. I purchased a Halltech Trap from a forum member and tried to get it installed but after 6 hours of cussing and scraped knuckles I'm back to the stock airbridge and Blackwing. Just fitting the lower airbridge in to the MAF without distorting the rubber transition was good enough to ruin my day but then I got to the real PIA. The Warhead filter will not fit under the nose of the car without significantly bulging the lower bumper cover and radiator shroud to the point it's nearly impossible to get the 5 screws back in place. With my wife and son helping to push and pull I finally got the screws back in place and realized that the center screw had gone all the way through the filter from the bottom. I don't even want to guess at what another damn filter's going to cost but at this point I don't know what good it would do. Same thing would happen.
The top of the filter rubs against a black foam support that backs the top of the bumper cover. It looks like it would fit if some of the foam were cut away but is this really something you have to do? Doesn't mention that on the Halltech website instructions and even if I could figure out how to get in there to do it I don't like the thought of digging foam out of the nose of my car. I just can't imagine something that costs $400+ new would fit so poorly. What am I missing here? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'll honestly tell you, I took the lower duct off completely and used only the top airbridge, installed the MAF to the front of that and installed the Warhead filter to the front of the MAF. Built my own Stinger. Went back to the vendor in question and asked for a $100 refund. As happy as I'll get with this install. Someday after I've recovered my patience I'll probably try a Vararam B2 - like maybe next year, summer project. It'll give my memory the benefit of time and forgetting this episode.
Did you go the Halltech site, if I remember correcty they have instructions and pictures on this install, check it out
Yeah, did all that. Thing is, it would fit fine if the filter was just slightly smaller. Drop about an inch in overall height and it would have cleared all the way around. I seem to remember reading a post a long time ago about Halltech going to a different sized filter because of clearance. Maybe I've got an old one.
I spoke with Jim at HallTech earlier this morning. I was told that it was normal for the center screw to puncture the filter and that actually helped hold it in place. Unfortunately I didn't know this in advance and the filter was off center and canted toward the passenger side of the car when I ran the screw up through the radiator shroud, bumper cover, and in to the filter. Then before realizing I had run the screw in to the filter I tore a larger hole in the filter trying to slide the filter back to center... Guess I'll try to cover the torn spot in the filter because I'm not up to paying another 90 bucks for a new filter.
Can't understand why a slightly smaller filter with enough clearance wasn't used to begin with.

This intake is not worth the hassle that you go through during installation. You are much better off just using a Blackwing and the quality is MUCH better...
