I took my 2002 6 speed with 20k mikes to Chevy and had them change the trans fluid. It has always been notchy and at times stiff going into 1st & reverse especially in winter. But after they had it all the gears feel bad and it has been really hard to get it into 1st & reverse. I put it up on my ramps level and started to remove the fill plug on the side of the tranny. Nice red fluid was coming out pretty quick so I put it back in. My thought was they didn't fill it. Now I am wondering if they over-filled it and can this cause my hard shifting problem.
Overfilling is not good. In fact, the car would have to be tilted at an angle to overfill it too much. Let the excess drain and then see how it feels. I wouldn't think too much fluid would have such a dramatic effect on the shift feel, but then, I've never overfilled a tranny before.
Is it still under warrenty??? If it is, let your concers be known!!!! If it is on paper your COVERED as far as the warrenty goes and the repair is on GM!!
If you had GM change the fluid, 99% chance that they replaced the fluid with OEM conventional ATF. While this is not bad, I saw a significant shift feel improvement in both my 98 MN6 and 02 ZO6.
Even if it was not under warrenty i would still voice my concern with the over fill.
