I have a 2000 Coupe, and this weekend I noticed a lovely whining/weering noise coming from my alternator. For the moment, the problem is intermitent, but I think that might be the warning sign of an alternator going bad. Does anyone have a part number for the alternator, I saw 10353440 on another post, can you please verify? Also, any ideas on places to puchase it from, would be appreciated.
Can't help you with the part #, but are you sure it's the alternator? The belt tensioner fails more frequently, and they are often intermitent.
I went through the belt noise issue a few months back, and my tensioner and crank pulleys were really out of whack, so I replaced both of them, and also the idler pulley while I was there. This was back on 8/4/04. I doubt that it has gone bad so soon. In addition, the noise is definitely coming from the alternator, which is on the opposite side of the car from the tensioner.
