Default A thread on DTE's customer service.

I wanted to post about a vendor that goes above and beyond the call for the customer. I am not affiliated in any way with DTE or any other vendor.

About a year ago or so, I bought a 3.90 rear from Phil at DTE. I put about 2k miles on it or so, and it started whining. I was not really surprised - I have also been a big F-body guy for years, and almost all of them seem to whine with aftermarket gears.

I emailed Phil about it, and he graciously offered to disassemble it and see what the problem was, if I were to send it back to him. This was fine but unfortunately I do not have a garage or anything and having to leave my car up on jackstands at my parents' house for a few weeks would not have gone over well!

Fully expecting to be blown off, I told Phil my situation. Incredibly enough, he agreed to build up a 2nd rear to my specs and send it out to me on his tab! This was a fully built 3.90 rear with cryo treatment, output shaft, etc. I don't even know how much they go for at this point but probably $1500-1750.

Needless to say, as soon as I got it, I put in double duty in the rain and got the old one out to him. New one is now in and is quiet as can be. Hell, my fuel pump is the loudest thing now (at least, when the cutouts are closed ).

Many many thanks to a great guy. I appreciate it, Phil.

For what it's worth, DTE is in my top 3 for all-time best customer service. If you're curious, the other 2 are Thunder Racing and McCord.

In my mind the jury is still out on DTE. Last I heard a certain blue Z06 on the west coast didn't have such a nice time dealing with them. So I wait and watch.

I can understand your position. Personally from seeing McRat around since the beginning, I wasn't surprised by what happened. He's definitely a loudmouth and I think he tried to use it against a company who wouldn't allow themselves to be pressured by the 'squeaky wheel'. I have a particular dislike for such a person, working in IT where I deal with the 'customer' a lot.

Then again, the topic was beat to death about 1000 times, so I hate to even have it brought up for the billionth time.

I've met McRat in person. I think he's a nice guy. I think he's outspoken, but a nice guy.

I have spoken with Phil @ DTE, and had several very good conversations with him. I will say that I was very impressed with DTE sending techs to BG to fix a customer's car onsite at the Z06fest which was quite a drive for them (I think 6 hrs).

I know McRat and DTE have issues, but I don't think that their issue should reflect negatively on the business as a whole.

We have DTE brace on the rear right now, and plan on adding several other DTE items. In looking at he difference in the DTE itmes vs some of the other products out there, the DTE items look to be constructed the best.

Seems like the brace is becoming a must for sticky tires. I am ordering one today.

GREAT POST!!! Thanks for offering up your opinion, I must say most (if not all) the supporting vendors are really top-shelf here..... But a customer's opinion goes a long way.

Thanks again!

We have purchased numerous aftermarket parts and always posted reviews of the parts and the dealers. There has only been 2 times where the parts we ran were not "up-to-snuff". We have spent well over $1000 (I'm embarrassed to say how much) doing dyno testing and posting results, good or bad. It's funny we have never seen you bitch when we did this.

When we have had a problem, the first thing we do is go to the mfr/dealer and let them have a chance to make things right. In the case of the two companies that provided us with defective parts and refused to make it right, we have posted the results.

I guess in your world, you should only post favorable reviews of products no matter what. Maybe you should get a job at one of the Car Magazines where that is hip-slick-and-cool, you'd fit right in.

I am limited what I can say about the two situations, but let me assure the readers here that we do not say stuff is good or bad without valid reasons to back it up.

So go back to your world of "HearNoEvilSeeNoEvil" and leave the product testing to honest folk.

I don't see anyone saying, or implying that only favorable reviews should be voiced. Please do not make up nonsense. Your particular topic was beat to death several times, I think everyone understands your perspective by now. If they don't, they never will.

Thanks,

My husband posted one thread about it. One.

Is that excessive? Does that make him a loudmouth?

Yeah, 1 thread about it. 168 posts and 5 pages that got locked for out of control bashing. Not to mention follow-up posts on the topic anytime DTE's name is mentioned (here being a prime example).

This thread is about an excellent company, not an invitation to bitch at me about things you made up in your head (I'm still trying to figure out why you came up with your thinly veiled nasty comments to me). I've never even said a word to you, ever, and now you come out and imply that I'm not honest and that I said things I never said? Crazy.

I made an honest post about a great experience with DTE. I am a diehard enthusiast and racer, just like a lot of us here.

Any further comments to me should be sent to me off the board, before this thread's maturity level bottoms out.

Love,
Dope

This has nothing to do with DTE... I'm in this thread because you bought him into to this thread. We race the same cars at the same events you bash him you bash me.
