Default C5 - Electrical Problems - Need Help!

I have a friend with 99 - 6 Spd Coupe - he is on route to Florida to visit his parents, and has some strange happenings with his Vette - he called and ask that I post the symptoms in hopes you good folks had some advice/suggestions. What he's experiencing:
He has no lights in the rear - tail, stop, center - nothing.
When he puts his foot on the brake his dash lights dim
When he engages cruise and turns lights on, the cruise disengages.
When he tries to lock car with the remote, the alarm goes off - when he hits unlock, the alarm stops
The remote for the hatch works fine
All of this started yesterday - today when he started out, everything worked fine - for about 5 minutes, then same issues as above
He's an Engineer and pretty good at diagnosing - can't figure this one out - all fuses are fine. He's guessing it's a ground problem.
Any help appreciated - he's calling me back tomorrow evening.

There is a COMMON problem with many C5's and it is pretty easy to check and see if he is having it! The Body Control Module (BCM) is located in the passengers foot well. The AC/Heater box drail can clog up and cause water to back up and leak into the foot well area. There is also a small 1/2" black rubber hose that takes cool air from the air box and ducts it into the AC/Heater blower motor. If the AC or Defrost is being used the condensation from the hose or water leaking from the box can short out the BCM and cause ALL sorts of weird things to happen!

Been there! Ask him to remove the toe board in the passengers foot well and look for water or damp carpets. Check the jute underlayment under the carpet. If it is wet or even damp, have him disconnect the battery, disconnect and remove the BCM

BCM is the silver box next to the fuse box!

Here is the drain that can clog up and cause water in the the air box to back up and leak in the pass foot well

Dry the BCM out under a heat lamp and make sure that you do not get it too hot and WARNING! It is Eletrostatic Sensitative and will be damaged if handled wrong.

If your friend checks that out and that is NOT the problem, let us know and I will dig into the books!

Nice advice, I have seen that before, but where are the drains?

If you have headers the drains are a BITCH to get to from below! If you do not have headers it is accessable from below. I have included a pic of the location of the tube looking down from the engine compartment on the passengers side. The flash light beam is shining on the area where the drain is located. It is under the wiring harness in the picture.

the drain is right on the blower motor which is just above where the BCM is - in the passenger footwell. Super easy to take off and inspect. Good luck man, hopefully his trip goes ok!

Big thanks for all the input to the electrical problem. Thought I's post the outcome - He found(or I should say a dealer in Florida found) the 400 ground in the back between the taillights to be the problem. They fixed it no charge, and all is well. I didn't get ALL the details, but I suspect there was some corrosion.
He was really concerned because after I communicated with him regarding battery leakage, he found that his new Sears Diehard had leaked considerable acid into the battery tray - fortunately, there was no damage below the tray. Guess GM Delco isn't only one with battery leakage problems. Good thing he found it.

Thanks Again,
