I have a stock cd changer on my 2000 corvette (Pioneer cdx-m2016). When i load cd's , err message occurs. I am installing the cd's in the correct manner. Is it common for this changer to go bad after 4 years . and is there anyone out there close to the dc area that has a late model corvette that i can swap to see if in fact it is the changer and not some other problem. Thanks
Yes, unfortunately they go bad with regularity. Your problem is one of the symtoms. Mine "locked up" about 6 months ago (would not play, would not eject, etc.). I'm sure you have seen that replacements aren't cheap. I actually had mine totally re-built (with 1 year guarantee) for $170 (plus shipping). They charge this flat fee and will fix whatever the problem is! Got it back in a week, and it's been perfect ever since. It now even plays CD-Rs!
I didn't get the 12 disk changer in my car when I bought it new. I was thinking of adding one. I've seen the threads about installation and it looks pretty simple. But, after some thought I think the better way to go is to use an iPod with the FM transmitter. A 15 gig iPod will hold about 300 CD's. The heck with loading 12 disks at a time
Something that I found out the hard way! I record my own CD's. I recorded CD's for the vette on regulad quality CD'R's and the thing WOULD NOT play them. I posted on the forum and someone recommended that I try to make the recordings on Memorex Music CR-D's. Well I did and it worked fine.
Make sure that you are loading the CD's in the correct way and let the CD's cycle through before you play them.
I am in need of a repair such as you have described. Where did you have yours rebuilt for $170? The best price on a new unit I've found is $447, and was quoted $310 for the repair. Help, please! (C5bruce@adelphia.net)
