While inspecting under my C5 MN6, I noticed a lot of oil residue at the rear of the transmission case and explains the oil drip on my garage floor. Is this most likely a seal at the rear of the tranny?
I also noticed oil residue on the passenger side of the differential output shaft...I assume this is a seal that is leaking. How hard is this to fix?
Thanks for any help.
John
Soneone on this forum (Patches maybe?) wrote up a good DIY for changing the rear seal since it is such a common problem. Didn't look to be too bad. The tranny requires removal though, so that may be a good time to consider any other changes you have contemplated. I know the first time mine comes out, the L.A.P.D. slave bleed extension is getting installed.
Had the same problem - developed a leak toward the back of the trans where the trans cases are mated. There is just a bead of silicone between the cases. Mine was a very slow leak so I tried running a bead of silicone on the outside of the trans were they are mated but it did not work. You have to drop the trans to fix it right.

I just had the seal between my transmission and the differential replaced. Cost was $600 at the dealer (thankfully under a warranty). They did not remove the transmission to repair. It is a gasket made from silicone and they were able to loosen a couple of bolts holding the differential down and move the differential back enough to get between the two parts, remove the old gasket and put in some new gasket material. So far, so good. Still charged the warranty company for about 8 hours labor.
Not sure just how hard it is to repair the differential seals. Mine has been replaced three times, with this last time looking like it worked.
