Default Gm Shafted Me

I SENT MY 03 ZO6 TO BE REPAIRED, DONT TRUST MY LOCAL DEALER SO SENT THE CAR 1100 MILES AWAY..UPON INSPECTING, THEY FOUND THE CAM BOLTS--1 BACKED OUT, THE OTHER BROKE IN HALF, CAUSING THE TIMING CHAIN TO DROP--RESULTING IN BUSTED HEADS, BUSTED BLOCK, EVERY PISTON HIT EVERY VALVE DESTROYING MOTOR. THEY SAID THIS WAS NOT MY FAULT-IT WAS A PROBLEN FROM GM SO THEY TOOK THE MOTOR TO THE DEALERSHIP HEADS OFF, TIMING COVER OFF SO THEY COULD SEE THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM-AND NOT FROM SOMETHING I DID..GM FINALLY COMES TO LOOK AT IT AND IMMEDIATELY WALKS OUT SAYING NOT COVERING IT BECAUSE THE DEALER DID NOT REMOVE THE ENGINE--A VERY GOOD ASE CERTIFIED AND BEYOND DID. THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE FASTER TO GET A REPLACEMENT ENGINE..CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY---WHAT IF I HAD IT SOMEWHERE THERE WAS NOT A DEALERSHIP AND IT HAPPENED--SAME ROUTE, A CERTIFIED GROUP TAKES THE MOTOR OUT--GETS ANOTHER AND I SEND THE BILL IN FOR REIMBURSEMENT? GM DID ME WRONG AND WILL NOT EVEN HELP ME WITH A NEW BLOCK OR HEADS :bmad: :mah:
I HAVE BOUGHT FROM GM SEVERAL NEW CARS IN THE PAST 12 YEARS--NO MORE FOR ME.. VERY FRUSTRATED--THIS WAS A GM PROBLEM- NOT A OUT OF MY POCKET PROBLEM--ENGINE WAS NEVER OPENED UP BEFORE THIS. ANY IDEAS? sorry for yelling.Dave

Poor guy,
I am a gm tech at a dealership and we work on ALOT of corvettes,do corvette prep for multiple race applications. You first went wrong by letting an unauthorized shop remove the engine . The dealer has no idea what your car is or how it has been treated(for all they know it's a T1 race car). you should have searched a little harder for a dealer you trusted.
On the other hand I have seen this cam bolt issue myself personally. did you have any dtc's before this(like cam position sensor codes?) We had an 02 z06 corvette with cam sensor codes and upon inspection found that all three cam sprocket bolts had loosened and almost fell out. We repaired this under warranty.
Good Luck

A supercharger doesnt loosen your cam bolts. You should have taken it to a dealer first.

With your mods. I think it will be very difficult to get GM to warranty any engine damage. Unfortunately, once we mod the engine; any future problems become our problem and not GM's even tho it may be a QC issue withing GM.
Sorry for the bad news.

Was the turbo still on the motor? Or did you remove it so GM wouldn't see it? As Z06ufgrad2002 stated, once you mod the engine it's your problem after that. It sucks your engine is toast, but that's the way it is.

Looks to me like you want to give the shaft to GM, and make us pay for you.

You posted this in the General C5 section too! Read those responses. Your car is HEAVILY modded and you expect GM to take your word for it that you didn;t do anything to the car? Not going to happen!

Is this blown motor #2?

In most cases with any product you buy if you open it up you void the warranty. It used to be clearly written in the GM warranties. I haven't checked lately but I bet it is still there. You just learned an expensive lesson. Don't learn another expensive one and dump a bunch of money on a lawyer to get the same answer you have now.

This can happen with any make car. If you are at your local dealership they may look the other way and honor the warranty anyway but it is the luck of the draw.

Best thing you can do is write a suck up letter explaining exactly what happened and how much you want GM to pay you. Have your ASE certified mechanic provide the cost estimates. Send the letters and cost estimates directly to Rick Waggoner. If you are lucky you will get some sympathy and a decision in your favor. All it will cost you is some time composing the letter, some sheets of paper, an envelope and a 37 cent stamp. It doesn't hurt to be contrite and admit you made a mistake. On one of my previous cars GM picked up the tab for an expensive air conditioner problem I had fixed by a non-dealership shop after I wrote a letter explaining the circumstances and an admission that I was partly at fault.

Well, it seems if you felt it would be warrantied, you would have taken it to a dealer. By taking it elsewhere, you kind of assumed you were going to be paying the bill, so why are you upset?

Hey, I'm for getting to get GM to cover it if it's their fault, or even gray areas. But when you're modding your engine for increased hp, things can and do happen that otherwise would have been fine...that's our cost for the added enjoyment of more hp. Sometimes it's not cheap...
