Default Pulling console, shift ****?

I want to pull the console out of my Z06 to sound proof the floor and tunnel. Does the shift **** have to come off and if so does it just unscrew?, or will the whole boot stay in place and the console rise over it?

Not sure about the Z06, but in my A4 coupe the shift and boot stays and console comes over it..

Great detail instructions on Vette Essientials website for that under I believe installing gauge bezels

You don't have to take the shift **** or boot off in a Z06. The boot can be lifted up from the console before you remove the console. Then just slide the boot inbetween the console as you take it out.

there is a pin that holds it in place. It comes out with vise-grips and a little patience. Here's a link to help you out. I have done it a couple of times....no sweat.

Here's a pic (from the Vette Essentials site) that shows how the boot just snaps downward into the console.

In the picture the shift **** is removed because this instruction is to change to a new boot, but in your case, since you're not doing that, you can leave the **** in place.

In other words, the boot is wrapped around a plastic oval that you can just use your fingers to pry upward, and once it's free of the console, as mentioned above, you can just turn it and point it down through the oval hole in the console from which it was just located.

Wow, Thank you all, that's tons of information. I should be in good shape. Is carpet removal for dynomat underlayer and big deal? Is the carpet padding glued down or any other gotchas?

The hardest part is removing the seats and unhooking the plugs to the seats.
Not sure anybody really answered your first question but it's easiest just to press the plastic ring on the leather shift boot down into your consol as your taking it off. There's two screws in the ash tray, one where the thermometer is, two bolts under the TC switch and two in the storage area. Just have to unhook the wires as you pull things out.

Oh, the little plastic pieces covering the bolts on the seats are stuborn. That and the side pieces that have the back speakers were a little tuff to deal with, everything else I remember being pretty simple. My carpet wasn't glued down any.
When I bought mine I took out all the carpet and scrubbed it with woolite. I wiped down the fiberglass and then installed insulation from the seat backs to the trunk for tire noise purpose. It helped cut it down quite a bit, I just used the Frost King foam and foil self adhesive insulation.
