Alot of members have had this problem including myself. If you have a chevron where you live start using it because it has Techron. If not just buy a bottle of Techron and it should clear the problem right up. Many think that sulfites from lesser grade gasoline collect on the sending unit and interfere with the signal.

If the gauge is going from zero to full, as if there is a loose connection somewhere, an area I've had a problem with is the cluster circuit board. The gauges receive info from the circuit board via a computer ribbon across the back of the cluster. The ribbon connects to the circuit board in three places by plastic clips on the circuit board. If these clips come loose, even one side of the clip, the ribbon can lose contact with the circuit board.

This happened to me and caused me to lose one of the turn-signal indicators. Turn signals operated fine, I just lost the indicator. Changed the bulb and still nothing. Then I looked closely at the previously mentioned connectors. I noticed that one side of one clip had come loose. I reclipped it and viola, turn signal works fine.

It's probably a long shot, but if all else checks out, it's worth a look and costs nothing but time to fix.

Good luck,
GUSTO

I have a 98 and had the same problem. Try running a couple of treatments of Chevron Techron fuel system addative. I ran two bottles through and switched brands of fuel to 93 octane High tier fuel. Problem seems to be resolved.

Default gas sending units

I had the same problem with my 2K vert - they replaced both sending units (under extended warrenty) and all is well again. Cost was around 1400. ugh

Default 98 corvette

I am not a tech, but when I brought my used c5 vette i had the gas guage problem. I went to my auto parts store and used a good fuel injector cleaner, not stp, Lucus or Chevron product did the trick

I get so mad when I see this, the dealers are scam artist's $1400 geezzz the level senders are only like 30 bucks each for the float. I have seen the Service Bulletin for the gage problems and would say that they would not fix 90% of the problems that we see.
