Default rear end questions!!!

Will someone please expalin the c5 carrier to me... What gears (how big) will go into a stock carrier, what keeps them from being able to put in bigger gears and also the idea of the hardend output shafts. Its all a jumble of confusion to me right now

Stock output shaft is kinda weak under heavy abuse... thus the aftermarket ones And i believe the lowest gear is 4.10.. which is what im using... a WORLD of difference from a 3.42 to that....

The "biggest" gears made for a C5 are 4.10s from what I've seen.
I think more people are breaking the diff. case than they are breaking output shafts but I could be wrong on that. I saw a diff. case crack in several places during a 1-2 shift on the street with street tires.

I know some companys sell different carriers with a 4:10 set up is this just because or is it for other reasons like the stock carrier (not output shafts) not being strong enough? I guess what I am trying to say is it ok, safe to put that big of a gear in a stock carrier?

Default DTE 410s

I have a 99 coupe and went with DTE 410s and HD output shaft. Its better to have the whole rear-end rebuilt than to add ring and pinion only. Really , REALLY, woke up the car ! I changed from the runflat tires to BFG G-Force KDs 275 front and 295 rears to keep from breaking the tires loose. You will get a 2nd and 3rd gear scratch with those gears.
