Default Twilight Sentinal Problems

I'm having a problem with the Twilight Sentinal feature. When I start from a dark location such as my garage in the morning, the headlights go on and then once I've driven on the street for a bit while it is light, the headlights will go off as they should. But when driving home at night as it starts to get dark, the headlights will not turn on. I tried this two nights in a row and both times the headlights would not go up. I tried turning the Twilight feature on and off and the headlights wouldn't move. I finally turned the car off and restarted it and then the headlights popped up automatically. I then tried turning the Twilight feature on and off and the headlights would go down when I turned it off and up when I turned it on so it was working correctly. The feature only seems to be working when I start the car. The delay is set to zero. Has anyone had a problem like this or know where I can start troubleshooting?

I am having exactly the same issue. I just added the twilight sentinel to my 99. Also my setting is a zero just kike yours. I am wondering if the ambient light sensor is defective.

I too am having that issue, with a twist, when the lights do not come up I manually turn the headlight switch on and they still will not come up I have to turn off the car and re-start it!

Where is the light sensor, I see two things on the top center of the dash that look like they could be the light sensor. I don't think it can be the light sensor as it works when I start but doesn't seem to recognize it getting dark without a restart.

The ambient light sensor is in the defroster grill on the drivers side. Take a small screw driver and pop up the grill. The sensor has a twist lock into the grill, so unscrew it and unplug the wire harness to replace.

I just put one in my car while I was doing HUD, so I am not sure if I got a bad sensor, or if it is something else like a relay.

I'm going to try and test it with a flashlight to see if I can get it to pop the headlights up and down and eliminate possibly the sensor as the cause of the problem.

I was having some similiar screwy things going on with mine. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. It was the battery. My positive cable was about an 1/8 turn loose. Tightened it up and it has been fine ever since.

I just tried mine, very strange to say the least. It will sense when it is dark, and turn the headlights on, but only on startup, other than that, no way no how will it pop the lights, has anyone had this problem? The sensor seems to be working, it seems to be somewhere down the chain that is screwy.

For my 99, the part number is 12450121. I assume that all years use the same part, but don't know for sure.

Per Patchs thread: Twilight (Optional in United States, Standard in Canada)

Press the OPTIONS button until TWILIGHT - OFF
appears on the display, then use the RESET button to
page through the following selections:

 TWILIGHT - ON
 TWILIGHT - OFF

If you choose TWILIGHT - ON, press the OPTIONS
button again to display DELAY TIME 1 2 in the DIC.

Use the OPTIONS button to switch between delay time
1 and 2. You can increase the delay time by pressing
button 1 (1 FUEL) or decrease the time by pressing
button 2 (2 GAGES). Each bar is equal to 12 seconds.
