I was checking out the CAGS Eliminator on PFYC and it mentioned that while the 1 to 4 shift no longer would happen, the shift light would still come on in the dash.....
I'm just curious as to why the shift light would still come on if the CAGS system is being bypassed......but supposing that the skip shifter is working correctly and the light is just still coming on, how do i turn off the light. Is there a way to go about it without having to tear apart the dash to get behind it?
Basically theres a solenoid in the transmission that physically prevents you from shifting the tranny. The skip shift eliminator is basically just a resistor inserted to fool the computer in thinking its working right.
You can probbly disable the light by pulling the bulb behind the DIC.

The light is indicating that the CAGS algorithm has been engaged and power is being applied to the solenoid, or in this case the bypass resistor. Since the solenoid is disconnected, the tranny doesn't know and doesn't care about the CAGS signal and allows you to shift the way YOU want.
It's not worth tearing the dash apart - the light eventually becomes just a reminder that you beat GM and their stupid CAGS.
Sweet thanx for the info.......i'll just install the Eliminator and hook up the HP Tuner to delete the light.
Appreciate the posts
Err.. If you have access to HP Tuner or LS1Edit, there is no need to buy or install the CAGS bypass. Just leave it hooked up to the stock connector. The PCM will not energize the relay, nor the light.
does anyone know why GM put in the skipshift? I never really found out why.
Based on the specific EPA course to test fuel economy, CAGS is programmed to allow the C5 to run this course optimally efficient, so it gets a higher MPG rating and no gas guzzler tax.
