Default Z06 Cam Upgrade

I am considering the following cams for my 2002 Z06 and need some advice.

TR 224/224 .563/.563 114
TSP 224/224 .581/.581 114
TSP 225/225 .589/.589 114
FMS FM4 226/226 .575/.575 114

TR 224/227 .563/.569 114
FMS FM5 224/228 .588/.576 114

Other upgrades include an intake, long tube 1.75" headers, and an underdrive pulley. I will be keeping my cats.

The application is mostly street driving with the occasional track based roadracing driver's ed event. In other words, I want a cam that has torque everywhere (2000-6600 rpm).

I also want to be able to pass a sniffer test and get reasonable mileage out of a set of springs.

- What cam would be best?
- How many miles would I get on a set of springs?
- What would be the estimated RWHP and RWTQ?

Also, do I have to go with headers to benefit from this cam upgrade?

my vote goes for

TSP 224/224 .581/.581 114

You should get a nice gain with the zo6 heads, LT headers and tune

Consider the 224/224 .563 lift @114 and upgraded valve springs like the -118s from Comp and they should never break. That's the cam and spring I am running except I have a .569/.569 lift which I would recommend. When you get into the .580 range and higher, you need to keep an eye on the springs. Not saying they will break but more likely.

Can the stock Z06 heads flow efficiently up to .589"? If not, what is the max?

Of the cams you mentioned I would go with the FM4 because it is big enoungh to give you a meaningfull increase over your 02 Z06 cam. Alan Futrals cams are known to make great power and to have excellent street manners. Plus it has a moderate lift that should not be too hard on valve springs.
If I were you I would invest in a very good set of dual springs such as Patroit Golds or Comp 921s.

You definately need headers to get the max out of the cam.

You might also want to consider the FM10 228/228 581/581 114

I have the MTI Stealth II cam. 224/220 on unported 01 Z06 Cylinder heads.
With long tubes and an automatic w/3.42 gears I got 412 RWHP ant 390RWTQ.
With the stick you would do about 430RWHP. It idles a bit rough but not
too bad. Would idle smooter with the stick. I like it a lot. Power everywhere.

WOW. Who did the tuning? Do you have any mods that are not listed in your signature? Do you have stock compression?

Will a cam with a duration greater than 224/224 (on a 114 lsa) pass a sniffer test?

It would depend on the limits allowed by that states emissions test. It varies from state to state. With Calf. being one of the toughest on emissions. 224/224 cams are about the limit with some states emissions tests.

everyone of those cams can be consider a daily driver cam. Tuners have come along way when it comes to ls1/6 cam packages. Cam specs are dependant on what you want to obtain for your goal. I have a fairly large cam and it makes sick power The tune on it makes it good as far as a daily driver but thats not what my car is. Its a play toy that I drive a few times a month

That being said I would recommend the FM5
