Default Need help with Intake Selection

Hi all,

My dad recently purchased a low mileage C5. The stock intake has been replaced with a VR (I think?) intake. What an absolute POS!!! We got to looking at it closer this afternoon, and half the foam filter was hanging out.

As it stands, he won't be driving it much until we can get this replaced. None of the stock intake components are present. I'd like to find an intake that won't require and drilling or cutting.

Any ideas you folks could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The donaldson blackwing is probably the most popular choice. Very easy 10 minute installation. Some decent gains for the money - maybe 15-18hp at the crank. No cutting or drilling necessary.
What did you say was the problem with the vararam that is currently installed?

The Vararam is junk. A poorly engineered product for a car of this caliber. I have never seen an air filter that looks as cheesy as this one.

Someone just did a crap job with the Vararam. Fix it, it's a great system.

By a new filter for it from Shawn @ L.A.P.D.

Go to C5 Tune or C5 General or C5 Parts wanted/Forsale and Look for the Halltech Stinger Group purchase... Lots of good info about the system and you can get in at the GP price of $199 Shipped.. this is one heck-of-a-deal
or just call Nate on Monday at 1-806-771-0205 and order it. It includes Filter and a Bigger Airbridge and a Smooth Coupler with all the necessary Clamps.

Is it really? Funny how the fastest C5's in the country all run them. Buy a new filter and use the VARARAM. It's one of the best intakes out.

Default Intake

Jeeze take it easy on the guy. Speedway is just making his comments based on what he can see.
Experienced Guys like you know the Vararam is a cold air induction system and yes most of the fastest cars in the country use 'em. But I'll bet money that there are more C5's out there without cold air induction that with.
Besides Ramming cold air into the intake doesn't make any noticeable improvement until you reach a certain speed, and most C5's are not equipped to take advantage of it anyway.

I never said the Vararam didn't work....I said it was a POS. Quality wise, I think the materials used are poor compared to stock, and also what's available. I also don't see a lot of folks running these units. Quite frankly, he doesn't think his car is any faster than mine....and mine is bone stock!

I will take a look at the Halltech.

I have been searching for an after market intake. The Vararam does have impressive stats but I have seen one and was very dissappointed in craftsmanship and material selection. ABS type plastic looks is an inexpensive material soulution and really looks it. I'm zeroing inon the Halltech stinger. Anyone with experience witht he westcoast hurricane cold air induction???

I had the vararam on my ride for three whole weeks before removing it and installing a BlackWing. Did not notice any loss or gain in sotp acceleration.

The vararam is poorly designed and filter quality and fit is horrendous. After seeing the sand that was being vacuumed into the filter area and the lousy fit of the filter It was a no brainer, it needed to be removed as soon as possible.

YMMV

You might think about the Callaway "Honker" cold air intake. I had it installed in the fall. Very clean install, no cutting, the MAF needed to be relocated, and I'm happy with the result.

www.callawaycars.com is the site.
