I just purchased my first Corvette 2 months ago and looking to make my first mod. I am interested in installing either a Blackwing or Halltech Stinger intake on my 2002 coupe. Can some folks please give me some feedback on which one they prefer and why? For about the same price as the Blackwing, the Halltech stinger also includes an air bridge and coupler, does that make it better? Thanks, the Forum has been great and a wealth of info!!!

I went with the Stinger mostly because of the air bridge. A lot of forum members seem to think the stock airbridge flows OK unless you get into cam/heads mods, though. The Stinger bridge is definitely better. I like the Stinger... but I'm a bit disappointed with the fit of the air bridge. It rubs the hood liner no matter how much I tweak with it. Not a real big deal, but it just leaves an ugly mark on the liner. Lots have the same problem. If I was to order again... I guess I'd probably do the Stinger. You can go far wrong with either.
Finally, you could start by modding your existing airbox. Search for "zip tie mod". This mod basically removes the top of the air box and retains the filter with long zipties. Doesn't look too great IMHO, but is probably just as effective as the Stinger/Blackwing, especially if you replace the old filter with a K&N. Some people just drill several holes in the airbox to get better flow. You won't believe how small the existing air inlet is on the stock box when you take it off!
The MAF has an adaptive strategy built into the PCM that compensates for the ripples in the coupler. The results of changing to a smooth coupler can cause surging, rough idle on deceleration. Over a period of time, the PCM will compensate for most of the surging.
Finally, the stock airbidge can flow enough air for 550 hp. Other than cosmetics, there is little reason to change the coupler or air bridge.
Don't buy either one! Go with something that will actually increase power!! Vararam. For the small difference in cost you will actually experience a noticable increase in power with COLD AIR
I went with the Blackwing on my new 04 Z06 and am very happy with the performance and quality of the product(very well made and fits perfectly). I did not want to deal with throwing codes on my 04 and also on my Z06 the Blackwing gets plenty of cold air(do not need air intake mods).

I drove my C5 with Vararam during the Kerbeck Toys For Tots cruise in a downpour with no water problems

Again, for less than $40, you can add COLD AIR to the Halltech and YES, the HP gains are real and proven (See my sig). So, for a total of $240, you can have an extra 12+ RWHP and cold air. That value is unbeatable in my book!

Donaldson is reknowned for making filters. Look 'em up in Google.
I trust them for giving me clean air.
Forget the zip tie trick. I've done both, and the Blackwing gives SOTP increase over the zip tie method. Just a waste of time and money IMHO. Was told that myself, but had to prove it to myself. The air has to turn too much in the stock airbox and go through too many shapes before the air bridge. Blackwing is an easy install, looks great, and works great. You can sometimes pick up a used one that's not been used much in the parts section. That's what I did and saved @ $75 over new.....and it looked new and came with box and instructions!!!!
The Halltech Warhead filter, with its larger than Blackwing surface area, has gone through plenty of testing since it was introduced as part of the TRAP system many years ago. In fact, after more than 20,000 miles of use, a Warhead-equipped LS6 engine was disassembled and found to be extremely clean - proof that the Remay synthetic filter media was doing its job.
Both filters filter well, but for $50 less, the Stinger-R system offers much more for the money.
for a brief description and peruse the 16-page pdf file to get a better idea as to what is involved. It'll take a few hours if you take your time. Fortunately, it is time well spent.
