wheel issue

I just bought a USED '02 and have found that the previous owner had sprayed an clear coat on the wheels which is now in the process if peeling off in a bunch of places.
I suppose I can strip them, but I'm looking for a better alternative. Has anyone anodized, powder coated, or otherwise modified the stock wheels for less maintenance? I'm gettin' too old to be polishing wheels!

Paint remover will take off EVERYTHING including the clear-coat. You then have all the options you talked about.....

Iv'e done it and as long as you have good gloves it is easy.

Be careful about powder coating. The baking process can weaken the wheels, one member lost all spokes after powder coating!

That shouldn't happen if the curing process is performed properly.
