Power steering pulley exploded?? coolant temps high?
Background
-Having a couple probs with the car in the past. On a track day the power steering would stop workin after 4 laps, when the car cooled it came back.
-Car was leaking coolant from the water pump so that was changed out along with the thermostat. But now the car still gets pretty hot like around 250 when its beat on. Fans turn on at 190 and we thought we got all the air out of the system so I don't know whats going on now?
Ok so now heres the fun part. Yesterday my friend was driving around kinda hard trying to see if we fixed the coolant temp prob. At a light he took off hard, and just as he shifted into second he heard a loud booom. fluid started pouring out from under the car luckily he was very close to home and was able to limp it there. Turns out the fluid was powering steering fluid. The surpentine belt was partially cut only half way across, and some of the ribs were detached. When the belt broke it took out the power steering resevoir. The pulley for the power steering pump was no longer there, all that was found were a couple 1" pieces of the plastic pulley.
Now the question is do you think the power steering pump was going bad, but even so why would it just explode into pieces like this? Basically I'm looking for an explaination as to what happend and we need to figure out what is going on with this coolant problem.

I added a radiator and change the fluid. it helps.
