Default Grease on right rear wheel

Looks like I am in for a trip to the dealer this week. I was cleaning the car today and noticed that the inner part of the right rear wheel was covered in grease. We hear a popping sound from that side of the car when it is first driven after sitting overnight every once in a while. I've already had the right rear shock replaced when the car was 3 months old. I did notice a small spot of grease about a month ago but didn't think much of it.

I was searching the archives and see where it may be an axle boot or an axle seal. Either wat it's a warranty item thankfully. I just hate taking it in. At least I get to watch him work on it.

Dealer tech probably ripped it at the clamp when removing the shock.

Have a nice trip back..

Mine was the boot leaking, sounds like you may have the same problem, good luck.

Looks like this is a common problem on C5. When I bought my 04 C5 back in Jan, The next day (with only 50 miles on the speedometer) while I was cleaning the wheels I notice a pile of grease in the inner barrel of the Wheels. I assume that it's only an overflow or excees grease that the mechanic has use so I clean up the grease and move on. After two days while I was cleaning the wheels again (too much brake dust) I notice a pile of grease in the same spot. This time I drove the vette to the dealer to get look at and after two days in the dealership, the service advisor told me that they replace the axle assembly. Quality on a new vette......is second to the salary of the assembly plant.
