Hey guys. I just got my Z06 back with a forged motor and turbo and I have about 1/4" of play in the steering wheel before the wheels start to turn. I never had this before the motor change. Could it be that something is not tightened up or what do you think? Thanks!
Not good Check the bolt were the steering shaft connects to the steering rack. You can get to it from under the hood.Even if the bolt is tight it may not be tight enough to squash the clamp leaving play in the steering.
This is serious!! Dont drive the car until you get this resolved! I totaly agree with C5 Tech's diagnosis!! Best thing to do is have some one turn the wheel and see where the lost motion is happening! I bet it is at that joint!

I had this problem after one of my motors swaps. We thought the steering shaft coupling was tight, and it felt tight, but after putting a long 1/2" drive socket on it and tightening it, the play went away.
This really isn't that dangerous. The coupling can't come off (unless the nut that holds the clamp on is totally gone) which you can tell once you look at how it goes together.
