Default 97-2000 Halltech stinger install question

I've read dave68's stinger installation instructions but it was for a 2001-2004 I believe. My question is, whats the difference between the 97-2000 installation and the 2001-2004. Should I follow the 2001-2004 directions anyways that are on the halltech site?

Your MAF is smaller in diameter than a 2001-2004 MAF. Assuming you got the stinger for a 1997-2000 model, the install should be about the same. I think you might have a seperate temperature sensor that fits into the airbridge, that 2001s and up don't have. I don't know if the air bridge comes with a hole drilled in it for this sensor or whether you have to drill one. On the later models this temperature sensor is in the MAF itself. Maybe someone who has installed the stinger on a 97-2000 can chime in and give you more details. I think you will like the stinger and it should give you about 10-12 more rwhp.

I have it and it installs the same as the later year except for the sensor that sticks to the side as the stock airbridge. Be careful in removing this sensor from the stock system.

A CF member wrote this regarding the extra step you must take:

"It took alittle elbow grease. You will need to carefully push and pry the IAT out of the rubber grommet it is in. Push it from the inside of the airbridge and then pry it from the outside using a flat screwdriver. You have to be careful not to pull it out to fast because the sensor can break. Once the IAT was out, you can then easily remove the rubber grommet and then reinstall it on the Stinger airbridge. Then you slide the IAT into the grommet."

As far as I know, this is the only difference between installing a 97-00 and the 01-04 Stinger-R.

Follow those directions. The only diff is the temp sensor in the old bridge. The stinger I got for my 2000 already had the hole for the temp sensor pre-drilled. It was somewhat of a bear to get the rubber sensor sleeve out of the old bridge. See the quote that Dave included for details on how to work it out. The rubber sensor sleeve is pretty tough material. I cranked on it about as hard as I could to get it out of there.

You will like the results.
