there are several steps in detailing rotors.. dremil tools have many attachments, wire wheels, arbors, polishers etc..
they sell wire wheels you can put in a hand drill, some have a 1/4 in. arbor and some wheel come with a perminently fix 1/4 in shaft..
the idea is to use a wire wheel to remove all the rust.. steel wool , etc.
as I said before you need to read over all this stuff.. write down what is needed. I already said how to deal with the holes.. 1/4 by 1/4 sq of emery paper on an arbor and polish each hole..by sticking the arbor in each hole, but not all the way in.. this technique will put a radius on the hole at the chamfer, and make it look like a mirror,
I really dont think there are enough **** people out there doing this stuff, those that are that **** can figure it all out on their own.. Those that can figure it out, can always contact me or some of the other **** directors on this forum we are all willing to help.. one on one.. Ive had atleast 75 pm's since this thread started and wanted some help in private on this issue..
Macinamouth: I am in T.O. and have most of the qualifications you are talking about and am looking to change out my rotors and calipers
You have to have ALL the qualifications!!!!
Lets give it a try..........
Alternatively.....I was thinking of putting together a RUN out to Pensylvania when the weather is nicer. And we could see exactly how much free time Evil really has.....

I have lots a free time in the summer I just lay around the pool working on my tan. In the winter I have lots a free time too.. I could prolly fly out there on southwest airlines for about 25 dollars, and deduct it from my taxes as a mercy mission.better yet you could box them up.. and send them to me.. and for 1 dollar and a nickle , I could rejuvenate them.

Why don't we wait a few weeks for your tan to fade completely. Then I will pick you up at the airport. Give you room and board here in SUNNY california. And when your not spiffin out my rotors I will serve you cold beers while your floating in my pool....
I found an outfit that will re-plate the zinc on the rotors semi-locally (Reading PA), then will try ET's idea of Clear 1500* paint. Think that it will be a way to stay ahead of the problem. Folks at Baer said the screws/bolts in the 2 piece rotors are self locking aircraft type, 12 ft/lbs Tq to put them back together. Looked at the rotors a few days ago, not driven for 2 wks and they were completely rust coated. I do realize a trip to the end of the driveway will remove the majority of it, but it's a long way from ET's.
From: the GOCC are everywhere, even back from "band camp"
Evil, your rotors are truly impressive. Thanks for all the detailed tips. When I upgrade I hope mine look as nice.
Howard, what part of California are you living in, we haven't seen the sun in how long???

Bruce....Happy new year buddy
You know by next weekend it will be mid 70 to low 80. I'm heating up the pool in hopes Evil will accept my offer!!
Called Baer today. Talked to their tech guy to confirm he got the pics of my rotors. He did. I was expecting him to tell me all looked normal and to have a nice day.
What he did say was....."your issue is being reviewed by a higer up"
I don't know if he meant GOD or Evil-Twin.......

Will post again with any info I get.
This was the first thing I saw this morning. LOL
Made me laugh outloud. It was a good way to get my heart started, IM so tired of sticking an appendage in the light socket every morning.
BTW I got your pictures from Rick Elam of Baer rotors. THey havent paid for my last consultation fee yet.

Hmm, I'm starting to think I should be talking to Baer. They would s**t if they saw my rotors.
I know its a long shot, But
If you get bored, show us which dremel attachments you are using.
Did I read it was one of the wirebrushes?
Think you already told us how to form the sandpaper (and what grit).
Something I've been toying with:
(there are tons of instructional videos out there)
Why not one for Vette Maintenance?
19.99$ a piece
Limit them to 15-30 minute in duration if possible.
Some jobs that are shorter(like changing out fog lamps and re-aiming them) and some are longer (like clamping on a new cat back exhaust).
Anyone game? (or do these already exist and I don't know what Im talking about)

First of all I am retired with a lot of time on my hands. Secondly, these rotors where 1000 dollars. After a few years they start to look haggard. A two day investment in detail brings them back to their 1000 dollar look.. it is also personally rewarding to bring these back to the luster they had when new. Actually they look better than New because the zinc is gray. After my polish and clear they sparkle like mirrors.
nice job evil on the rotors. retired with a vette. sweeet!
