That's for you George!

Quasar, I'm with you, but you could've figured that out when I posted the part #'s earlier. If you can tell me which one I need, I'll order a kit myself and do a write up. It'll be a while because I'll be doing it in conjunction with a quick release and Sparco/Momo steering wheel installation, but I'll definitely be taking lots of pics.

Quote from a previous thread submitted by a fellow poster....
Part: GM# 88952427 and will be identified as Harness K. This is for the A4, but works just as well in a MN6 as it is only a relay installed between the BCM and CL.
Cost: ~$72 + shipping from Ken Fitchner's

There's an inside joke here somewhere, but it's going over my head.

Well, I have another project that'll be rushed to fruition.

Okay, I've read that even though the dealer should disable the airbags, it can be safely done at home as long as the caps are given sufficient time to discharge. I'll pay for a few extra hours of auto hobby shop time and go to the gym. After that, taking it apart is pretty straightforward. My first problem is I've heard a special adapter will have to be machine to allow a quick release adapter to adapt to my steering column. So on my first diassembly I plan to take it apart to get dimensions for the adapter's adapter. First question:

Can I put it together without the airbag, just the steering wheel, and drive it to the dealership to have them hit it with the Tech II and turn off the codes, or will my vehicle be disabled?

Okay, if I can know I can get this far successfully, I'll progress my way down the steering column and install the Harness K and button it all up with the exception of the airbag. I still want to replace the locking plate. I'll go at the locking plate and the locking pin with a Dremel if I can't get new parts to install. This is the thread that still makes me want to go this route even with the Harness K:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=harness+K

If at all possible, I would rather physically disable the locking assembly. With the way I'm thinking about, the pin would still in the original location, but I'll cut a groove in the bracket so that if it ever does break, I can bust the bracket with the steering wheel if that need occurs. Also, I want to grind down the pin OR whatever the pin goes into so that it can never physically lock. From what I've seen, the car only cares that the pin goes in and out. I won't stop that, I'll just make the action futile. The Harness K looks like an option so that the computer thinks the pin is in the right location, even if it isn't. If further research bears that as correct, then I'll install the Harness K too.

Is it just me, or is the column lock way more of a PITA than it should be? Removing the ABS and airbags seems relatively easy compared to disabling the column lock.
