I have a 99 with the manual climate control...not the two **** automatic. For a while now the only vents that work are the defroster. A/C works and Heat works, but only through the Defroster Vents. I changed the control panel but it's still happening. Anyone know what part I need to replace that changes vents?
Did your GM batt leak and die? This is what happened to my 98, after a year or so I could not change where the air was being directed. It turns out that a plastic vacuum line beneath the batt had been eaten away by the batt acid. A quick addition of a rubber hose to connect the 2 ends again fixed my probelm.
You have most likley lost the vacuum source that controls the vents. The source comes fron the back of your intake manifold. Here are some pictures of the fitting:

The small bottom fitting (Right side) is the vacuum soure for the vents.
It is VERY difficult to get to. Some have removed the fuel rail and have been able to access it. The rest of the vacuum lines run under your battery area into the fender well. IF you have or had in the past had a a Battery Acid leak (common AC Delco Battery problem) the acid will destroy the vacuum line (common symptom) and leave you vent less!
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
