LED tail lights - Faster, Duller, Turnsignal oddity
OK
installed the plug and play LED tail lights.
They do light up faster than the stock bulbs.
They are a bit dimmer than the stock bulbs.
And now,
the turnsignals flash nearly twice as fast.....
RainJ, I don't know if you're in trouble, but when I had my LED taillights (from Adjure) installed on my '01 Coupe back in March I also noticed a change in the turn signal noise from the dash. It's not twice as fast, but it was more like a gallop. I called Joe from Adjure and he was not able to come up with anything. They work fine, just sound different. My wife had the LED's installed (from SS Inserts) in her '03 Vert and no problems at all. I'd be interested if anyone else has had this issue.
I think the decreased flash interval is due to reduced resistive load on the LED vs. the incandescent bulbs. I think that you will have to put a resistor in series with the LEDs to create a similar load. I think they also make a competely solid state flasher that doesn't require a resistve load, but I am not sure about the fitment on the Corvette.
Maybe someone that has these working right can chime in.
You're correct. It's all about the resistance load. Some of the LED kits have this figured out and others don't. I wouldn't worry about it as there is no affect on their performance. I've installed several of these and found just the same results. You will need a resistor to correct the issue.
