Thanks
Yes. I removed the shifter when cutting it. Not very difficult. And yes I ran some new threads which was also not difficult. The whole shifter sits about 1 and 1/2 to 2 inches lower than stock. And there seems to be neglible effect on the effort required to shift.

As an aside I also did the shorten modification on the stock shifter, the cut, remove rubber isolation, shorten, rethread two pieces and rejoin together. That is also a good mod which results better than the the Hurst. I would have stayed with that if I hadn't gotten such a good deal on the Ripper that I couldn't resist the experiment.

The Ripper has a lower upper/lower arm ratio making it mechanically harder to shift.... but with a shorter throw distance. Your Hurst must not have been adjusted properly...Rippers are way more notchy. If you shortened the upper shaft of the Ripper, you made the mechanical leverage even worse.... hense harder to shift. This is pure physics... not subject to likes or dislikes.

The Ripper is the only way to go. The Hurst is a pain in *** with it's rattles and buzzing even with the high tech fixs (wheel weights)

I've always been happy with my Ripper. It feels just like the shifters did back in the 1970's (a little notchy, but feels like the old days).

Thanks for the input fellas. I exchanged for the Hurst and I love it. No noise whatsoever and awesome shifts!
