Default O2 sensor swap during header install

Hey fellas,
I am installing dynatech long tubes with cats on my 2000 coupe and the directions recommend switching to new front O2 sensors.
Do you think this is worth it for the cost or is it even necessary? If so what brands to you recommend?
Also, is this a good time to switch to better spark plugs such as the NGK TR55's? Thanks in advance.

While the plugs are out, definitely worth an upgrade. Many have also inadvertently cracked plugs during the installation so new plugs after the headers are in would prevent this. As for the O2's, not sure why they recommend that unless they are shorter or something. There was an issue early on with the Dynatechs and O2 sensors hitting the tunnel plate. How many miles on the car and how hard to get at the O2 sensor? Maybe they are thinking preventative maintenance because you have to drop the header to swap and O2 (just guessing here).

30K on the car. The instructions mentioned swapping only the 2 front sensors for new ones because they are crucial for peak performance and good gas mileage. Do the fronts and rears operate for different purposes?

Timing is everything... I'm in the middle of doing the swap right now with LGM headers and I've ordered a pair of the rear 02s from www.rockauto.com. I also took the opportunity to replace the plugs with new AC Delco units, since it was SOOOOO MUCH easier to get to them now with everything removed... Pound of flesh later, or do it now and forget about it! I'm using the fronts in the rear (Which LGM recommends the rears in the front and usi9ng 02 Simms on the front plugs) and the new rears will go to the front locations...

On my LGM header install, I chose NOT to use 02Simms and am extending the harness on my old 02s so I can keep the factory setup for monitoring and won't have the annoying CEL until I get an LS1 Edit tune done!

Mike
