got my new hurst shifter for christmas for my 2000 coupe, got the stock one off and noticed a small pin on the foward side of the shifter, is this the reverse lockout pin ive heard about. and do i just take it off and leave it out...
also, the hurst shifter looks like it can go either way, like theres not a front or back to it, is this a true statement and can be assembled either way???
I have a hurst and i installed it myself. I dont know anout your pin thing. I never remeber seeing a pin. The shifter will go both ways There is no front or back
The pin is for alignment of the shift linkage and is part of the stock shifter. You don't need to do anything with it, but don't drop it into the tunnel either. As for front and back, I don't remember.

is this the one, and do i just remove it...here are some pics of it
The pin is required only for the stock shifter. Just take it out and store it with your old shifter. As far as which way you install your shifter, you have to install it with the rectangular opening on the handle by the threads(for the lock for the shift handle) facing the back of the car not the front. I've installed too many shifters!!!

thanks, i did figure i had to have the opening facing the back for shift ***** to go on correctly...thanks about the pin...off it goes
Dont forget, remove the adjustable stops on the hurst unit, you dont need them.
Unless you are going to be doing some slamming hard race shifts often. Then (even though the trans has internal stops), you will need the shifter stops to help prevent damage to the internal trans stops. But if you just do street driving with some racing, then I'd remove the shifter stops.
Yes but the pin is shown with the OEM shifter out of the car. Giving you the clue that it does not go back in the car.
i saw that also, just wanted to be 100% sure...dont want to leave something out and have to tear into it again....
like i said, i printed out your pages and thats what i used to do the job...if you want my opinion, id just add to remove that pin and put it away to your great instructions...hell even the hurst instructions dont mention it and there pretty good also....
