My ABS and traction control lights came on and I had not noticed any performance issues. I took it in to be "serviced" as I thought that was all it was....lo and behold I am told that one of the traction control or ABS (can't remember which) motors shorted out and then sent an unregulated current to the other motor (ABS/Traction control can't remember which) blowing that one as well.......the bill is $3600 installed. Anybody seen, heard, paid like that before?? What to do? Thank you my fellow enthusiasts.
There is the standard pump motor for the ABS and then there is the much stronger pump motor for the TC/Active Handling.
This is needed because TC has to activate even if you don't apply the brakes.
The ABS already has fluid pressure because it only works when you hit the brakes.
Yes they are that expensive and there's a good amount of labor invovled. But, $3600. Labor rates must be pretty high. Maybe $1200 for both pumps, it depends on the model. It's a full day job.
I wouldn't call it a DIY job.
The TC/AH pump must have wacked the ABS pump.
Play the lotto, it's 1 in 1,000,000 to fry BOTH pumps.
Since it sounds like you are out of warranty it may be easier and more cost effective to get some used parts from a Vette wrecking yard. The dealership will not install them since they really can't provide their normal warranty on repaired items so another shop is the way to go. As the saying goes, "Everybody drives on used parts".

Thanks for the tip and the info. What are the odds...oh well. Living in Nevada I may just go out and play that lotto, table or wheel! Seriously though, thanks to both of you, the info was invaluable.
Before you get too far into your bank account, please do a little investigating. Please list all of the codes that are storred in your DIC. Write them down and post them on the forum. With that info we can point you in the correct direction! There are fuses to check, Grounds to examine and connections to look at. The only thing that you will have to invest is a little TIME!!!
I'de be willing to be it's something simple!!!
What do you say we give the simple stuff a try first!!!
Kind of the same thing happened to me and after reading about it on this forum, I cleaned the two grounds located behind the headlights on the chassis. No problem since then, works great - and I guess I saved about $3600
Thanks everyone. I think a little time is a good idea, Bill! I will ask for the list of codes from the DIC and get back to my mates. Always looking out for each other...I appreciate that.
Guys....now that I think of it. Just before this happened my driver side headlight motor started grinding and had to be replaced. I wonder if something got tweaked during the replacement?
If I can do anything to help you figure out this issue PLEASE let me know!! I had the same issues and cleaning the grounds took care of that problem plus 4 others.
That list is pretty much useless since none of the information telling you what conditions set the codes or the associated diagnostic procedures to be used for each code is provided. Without that information the code only tells you some sensor read a wrong value.

It looks like Bill has you on the right path but if things get hopeless and frustrating then my suggestion is take it somewhere else for a second opinion
