I HAVE A 98 A4 THAT WAS IN A WRECK AND HAVE CRACKED BELLHOUSING AND TUBE. IS IT ADVISABLE TO USE A NEWER YEAR TUBE. I HAVE HEARD THAT GM CHANGED THE DESIGN TO MAKE THEM STRONGER. I HAVE SOME INTAKE MODS, 342 DIFF AND PLANNING ON MAYBE YANK 2800 CONVERTER...IS IT WORTH BUYING A LOW MILAGE NEWER STYLE OR STAYING WITH 98 ORIG STYLE...THANKS IN ADVANCE. ALSO TRANSMISSION HAS 88K ANY RECOMMENDATIONS WHILE IT IS OUT-SHIFTS EXEL NO PROB.
If I remember correctly, with the introduction of the Z06 in 2001, they went with a larger diameter driveshaft inside the TT housing. And in 2002, all C5's got this (not just the Z06)
I don't think there is any difference from the outside; it's just the diamater of the interior shaft that changed. And one... can be bolted onto any year C5. (again; relying on a bad memory of this subject).
I'm sure someone here knows more specifically.

As long as you have to replace it you might as well upgrade. The driveshaft diameter itself is larger and the rear bearing housing assembly is different. I may know of a lead on a low mileage 12564456, will send mail. Are you needing the engine bell housing or the tranny bell housing?
Externally the AT and MT tubes can be distinguished by the shifter mounting brackets on the MT model. The rear bearing housings are different. And of course the tranny bell housings are different.
