After two trips to the dealer my fuel guage is finally fixed. The first time they re-programmed the PCM on a service bulletin fix. That did nothing to correct the erratic guage readings. This time they had my car for two days and decided to replace both level sensors and seals because they found both level sensors intermintenly going open during a sweep test, whatever that means. The best part is when I went down to pick up my car. The car was driven up by my service advisor and when I got in my DIC was flashing "low reserve". I remember my car had almost a half tank of gas. What the #&%#@%$. He did not say a word to me about the low fuel warning so I had to inform him about the fact that the car had half a tank of gas the day before. I know that they did not put on any additional miles because I had already checked my mileage. I asked him what was he going to do about this and he told me they would fill it up for me. I said to him, You have 93 octane? He then answered me no, only regular. I said absolutely no and then he proceeded to tell me all Corvettes take regular 87 octane fuel. I finally asked to speak with the service manager who finally decided to reimburse me for a half tank of gas. Going to the dealer can be a very scary experience. I guess I am lucky. My car was dirty but no new scratches.
I have not had one good service experience with a dealership on any care I have ever owned. Makes me wonder why I even purchased an extended warranty, since I'm so hesitant to take my car into a dealership.
One time I had a good exp. They replaced a trim piece that was broken and I never asked them to repair it. They chaged it for me for no charge. They got my service after that.
Does anyone know exactly what needed to be done to replace both these fuel level sensors. Just curious why they had to empty my gas tank leaving me breathing on fumes.
They have to get each tank down very low to open them up. I wouldn't want them returning the gas to the car, so you are probably better off they reimbursed you. Wonder what kind of gas the service guy has in his tank
I just recently had my right-side fuel sending unit replaced and they drained a good part of my tank too. It was full when I turned the car in. I didn't think about getting a refund though.
Fortunately, I got under the car later that week, because it turned out that they failed to properly bolt the shield under the gas tank to the body
Never trust a dealership to do anything just right!
I hate dealerships also. Especially the one in Gaithersburg MD who really screwed me over on a repair. But here, I've replaced the fuel sensor in other cars and have always drained the gas tank. The drained gas went into my lawnmower. Would never put it back in the tank. So as I see it the only thing this dealer did was not put some gas in the car and then charge you for it. Sorry that is all. That they paid you for the gas was a gift on their part.
