Default Front tire size option ?

Is anyone running 255/45/17's on the front instead of the 245's yet?

I've been searching thru forum threads without luck, so
sorry if this is a dupe post.

I am currently running Toyo Proxes 295/45/18 's on the rear of my '99.
I raised the car up as high as it would go, and those monster things
fill the rear wheelwell like God surely intended.
Had them on for 35,000 miles with no problems or codes being thrown.

Now, I see that many companies are starting to make 255/45/17 's
and was wondering if any of y'all have them on the front in place of the stock 245's.

Any mis-match of brands is not a problem for me, because the treads
appear to look very similar front-to-rear. My only concern is that they
fill the wheelwell without rubbing.
thanks

Well that size should work just fine. The tirerack.com lists the specs as 26" tall and your mud-bog rear tires are at 28.4" so the rear is definately tall enough.

Do you happen to have any pics of the car with that tire size on the rear?

I'd like to run 295's on the rear too. But my rear wheel size is 9.5". What is yours?

Sorry I don't have any pix of the rear. I'll try to get one of my
buddies with a digital camera and some computer literacy to
help out. As for the rims, they are the stock '99 rear
rims on my '99 H/Top.

The Toyo Proxes 295/45/18 's have been just fine living
in that wheelwell, and they look awesome. I believe that
that particular tire size was standard equipment on the Escalade,
but I may be mistaken about that.

Are you 100% sure those rear wheels are only 9.5" and your running 295's on them!
I spoke to Tire Rack about running that size and they said no way. I even asked him "off the record" so to speak. Of course they always take the conservative approach, but I asked him to be liberal. He said NO. I would love to fit 295's back there. Are u sure you have 9.5" in the rear?

check tire racks web site by tire size and then look at specs, you'll see they are rated for 9.5-11" wheels

It looks like the aspect ratio is a determining factor in the wheel width for the same tire width...interesting.

It is interesting. I ran most of the popular tires for the C5 when I posted from the Tire rack site and none showed a 295 would fit on a 9.5 rim. This is the first one I have seen that shows a 295 on a 9.5 rim.

Yes, I was suprised to see it, hence the question. Will it fit? According to measurements with a tape it looks fine but can't hit a pothole that way.
