I’ve been reading different threads on here about cam swaps, valve lengths and push rod lengths.
How do you adjust the valves on a C5? Please consider I have worked on a ton of racing Chevy small and big blocks with solid lifters where I had to set the valve lash. Could somebody post some pictures of the valve lifters and rocker arms? Just trying to learn a little about these amazing cars! Thanks
PS This may sound like a dumb question but the the only way to learn is to ask!
The LS motors have a non-adjustable valvetrains; you simply torque the rocker to the cylinder head and as long as everything is factory stock, the lifter preload is correct. However, since any change to block or cylinder decks, valve length, sinking valve seat, cam base circle, etc. changes the distance between the lifter & rocker, people commonly use different length pushrods to "make up" the difference (which keeps preload correct). Several aftermarket companies make retrofit adjustable rocker arms that adjust just like the older Chevy motors; that adjustability is required if you go to a solid cam requiring lash adjustment, and is also advisable on some aftermarket hydraulic lifters (such as Comp-R) which are more sensitive to preload than the stockers.
